TVS and USB: What does it do?

PostWed Aug 29, 2012 8:13 am

As i'm new to BMD products, but not new to Mac, i'm questioning what USB does with the connectivity of the TVS.

I installed the software, as supposed to. Connected the TVS to several HDMI-devices, connected it to a network. Up to this point there shouldn't be any problem.

But for now the network connector isn't giving me any sign of life.

Is this where the USB port can take this function? Is the USB port for controlling the TVS with the ATEM Software Control?

The strange thing is that my MacBook with OS X 10.6.8 doesn't see the TVS at all when connected to USB. It's not visible in Systemprofile while it's connected and the YVS is powered with it's adapter.

Am i doing something wrong here?

Hi Rafael,

Before you'll be able to connect to the Television Studio, you will want to set up it's IP address. This is done over USB. You will need to go to Applications->Blackmagic ATEM Switchers->ATEM Setup Utility. Here you will want to set an IP address, what settings you use will depend on your network.

Once these settings are set you will then want to launch the ATEM Software Control. In the software's preferences you will then want to set it to look for the IP address you set in the ATEM Setup Utility. If all goes well the buttons will light up and you'll be able to make changes.

If not, you will want to double check your IP settings in both the ATEM Setup Utility and the ATEM Software Control, as well as your network settings. If in doubt about your network you can just connect an ethernet cable directly between the Television Studio and the computer (or ATEM hardware control panel if you have one)

The USB port on the Television Studio is also used for H.264 capture, either through the ATEM software control or Media Express.

If you're still having problems with the USB, please try another cable and with a different USB port or computer. if it still doesn't work, please do give support a call to troubleshoot the problem.

I did what you replied. And i made up my conclusion: it's a DOA.

Earlier i connected the TVS to the USB and started the ATEM Setup Utility. There it keeps telling me that it's not connected. Even when only the power and the USB are connected. That's also why it doesn't show up in System profile. The USB port of my MacBook is working, as mobile hard disks use it too every day.

Earlier this week i got connection to the TVS by setting my IP-address in the same range as the TVS and connected it directly. I managed to control somethings over the network. Though the USB didn't work at that time either.

I think i'm going to contact our supplier for support. Unfortunately it can be true that things aren't working as supposed to.

EDIT: I brought the device to a reseller in the neighbourhood (lluckily there is one close to my house) and he concluded that it's dead. It only shows the LED of the power connected to the device and that's it. He'll call BMD to find a solution. (change it or repair it)
