ATEM Television Studio USB capture problem

PostTue Apr 19, 2016 7:12 pm

Hi guys,

I have ATEM Television Studio and I used to capture through the USB on my studio computer using the ATEM Software Control 6.6.1. I upgraded to 6.7. also updated the ATEM firmware 2 months ago. Installed the BDM Desktop Video (cause the switcher wanted it), but the software control doesn't recognize the ATEM TV Studio as a source. I uninstalled everything and installed again the 6.6.1 version.

Today I've installed the 6.8 version of ATEM Software Control and again it does not recognize the ATEM TV Studio as a device, that can capture from. Everything else is working properly. Also I can see the ATEM as a device in the Device manager of my Windows 10.

I need to fix this fast, because I have to live stream in couple of days.

Does anybody have the same problem? Have anyone fixed it?

Seems that there are huge problems with Desktop video.. There are many reports of older hardware that doesn't work after the update..

Try to install a very old version of the switcher software.. Something like 1 year old.. And try again.. Maybe it flashes all things chips back to original state from where you can go up again..

Please report if it works.. As it is valuable information to everyone..

I've rolled back to ATEM Software Control 6.6.1. This is the last version that works with the ATEM Television Studio for me. It installs Desktop Video 10.5.

Maybe tomorrow I'll try to install ATEM Software Control 6.8 with the Desktop Video 10.50, to che if it will work.

Yes, I did the same. But it would be a lot easier if they just wrote in the release details, that the new versions of Desktop Video do not work with the ATEM TV Switcher...

I have another problem with a DeckLink Mini Monitor card, as I wrote here: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=47041
I believe it's some hardware incompatibility between the card and the computer, but when I've read the tech specs of the card it only says that the computer must have PCIe slot and nothing more... And I'm waiting one week already since I wrote to the support, but still no answer...

I think they generally have some issue with the testing and the support...

Hi Blackmagic team,

I recently bought the ATEM television studio, and i'm setting it up at my client offices.
I got an issue with capturing video via USB.
The atem switcher is well connected to my laptop using the "prog usb port"

my profile:
- ATEM switcher v6.8
- Blackmagic Desktop video 10.6.4
- Macbook pro 13" (OS X el capitan 10.11.4)

I really love BM products but this issue is quiet annoying, I tried everything (install, uninstall,...)
Could you please help me cause my client gets crazy, and me too.
Thanks for your help

I was installing some TVS systems recently and couldn't get USB capture on 6.4 either. But 6.6.1 was fine.

PostMon May 23, 2016 2:42 pm

Hi,

I have an ATEM TV Studio connected to my Windows 7 laptop. ATEM TVS connected ok via USB and Ethernet using connect utility. Cameras connected and working via HDMI on 1080p50. When I select the Capture tab it says no device connected. M. edia Express says the same, no device. I can see the device in Devices. I have USB2 and 3 on the machine. What am I doing wrong?

Hi,

I have an ATEM TVS with software 6.8.1 loaded and the switcher firmware updated on connection.
I have Media Express 3.5.2 loaded.
So far I have tested on 2 new i5 laptops running Windows 7 and Windows 10, both with anti-virus switched off and firewall disabled.

I have tried 3 different USB cables in many different ports.

I have checked in Device Manager and the ATEM switcher appears and the driver is up to date. If I remove the USB cable the device disappears from Device Manager, so it is connecting. The ATEM also has ethernet and USB connectivity in ATEM Setup.

I have made sure that the Capture tab is selected in both ATEM and Media Express.

Whatever I do I get 'No Device is Connected'

Any ideas?

I'm having the same issues with 6.8.1. I had to downgrade to 6.7 to get the device capturing working again. Would love to see this fixed as well!

Thanks for the info Peter.

I have downgraded ATEM Software to 6.7 and Media Express to 3.5.2 but I still have the same issue sadly. I have contacted Blackmagic but they have not yet responded.

I have now tried the ATEM 6.8 software and Media Express on a third Window 10 machine, a really powerful one with high end graphics and still no joy. The ATEM device is definitely being detected by Windows and drivers loaded but it just won't show up in Media Express or ATEM TVS. Blackmagic Design have responded and are investigating.

Hello everybody. I badly speak English so sorry for the error. I also had the same problem. The problem was that my laptop all USB ports are defined as 3.0, and determined by the ATS system to capture video but did not succeed. I disconnected one after another, all USB ports and updated driver, and then one of the ports defined as a 2.0 to him and I connected the ATS, and the Express Media became active.

Ok,
On advice from Blackmagic I have loaded Desktop Video 10.6.6 and ATEM Software 6.7 on Windows 10 and ensured the LAN cable is disconnected while the firmware is updated by the setup app. Once all connected back up, this now works and I can capture video. The ATEM 6.8 software has an issue which Blackmagic confirm they hope to fix with release 6.9.
Thanks to all who chipped in on this.

My apologies for the lack of Blackmagic representation on this post.

Either by default, or by contacting Blackmagic Support, you have actually found the answer. Rolling back to ATEM 6.6 or before should remedy the no capture issue.

As we attempted to improve the software, there were obviously a few bits and pieces that we failed to discuss in a direct manner (ie in the Read More files associated with the drivers). Once we began getting the reports and we began duplicating them, we started looking at how to fix these issues. ATEM 6.9 should be out shortly.

I was having the same issues on a MacBook Pro with El Capitan. Rolled back to ATEM Software 6.7 and Desktop Video 10.6.8. Updated the firmware on my ATEM TV Studio and it can record fine now. Just wanted to chime in and share my experience.

Also in 6.8 I really dislike the new sidebar setup in the three areas. At the very least can the capture one be always visible? Thanks.

Just want to update that this still happens on version 6.9 of the software. Had to go back to 6.7

I'm on Mac OS Sierra 10.12.12 if that makes a difference. Sticking with 6.7 for now.

Now that the software version is up to 7.4, has anyone confirmed the capture works on an ATEM TV studio?

I too had that issue a year and a half ago and had to roll back to regain capture functionality. I'd like to upgrade to a more current version for audio bug-fix reasons but am afraid to whack my system again...

Anybody running 7.X that can confirm capture ability works (at least on Mac)?

Thx in advance...

I have it work with latest version

But the weird thing is, it will sometimes not working.

I see the software connected to ATEM. but all of a sudden after i unplug the usb. I cannot make the connection again.

And then after few days, when i setup my atem with my mac, it works again.
