Finally, a solution to the nightmare of the "No Device Connected" issue for Blackmagic Media Express!
We have been on the frustrating receiving end of the "No Device is Connected" message while trying to use BM Media Express to record over USB for some time now. The problem turned out to be AVG Antivirus software. We tried everything, including: new USB cables, reinstalling the drivers, and editing the registry (and almost hosing our computer)with no luck.
Apparently, Media Express depends on the Control Utility making a network connection with the switcher (ATEM TVS in our case). The AVG Antivirus blocks this network connection. So, if you:
* start the ATEM Control Utility
* temporarily disable your antivirus (after killing your internet connection to prevent hacking)
* unplug the USB from switcher to computer and then re-plug to your switcher
The computer should now see the switcher and the Control Utility should now populate with the network settings of the ATEM switcher (same as those of the Software Control Panel). Start Media Express and click on Device. It should now identify your switcher and you can record over USB again!
Although we made an exception in the AVG antivirus for the Control Utility, as long as the AVG antivirus was on, the switcher was not detected in Media Express. A simple solution then is to disconnect from the internet and disable the antivirus if you have this issue and need to record with Media Express. However, there is potential network vulnerability risk with the antivirus off. The risk is all yours!
Hope this helps someone.
