GPI Tally Interface and Sony CCU

PostMon Aug 01, 2016 5:32 pm

Hey community,
I have a question and hopefully someone has some experience to share:

I want to use the ATEM 2ME switcher in a bigger production. Therefore I need to use the Tally with my Sony CCUs. My idea is to use the Tally Interface and make an adapter from the 25pin to several XLR connectors.

I know what voltage I need on my XLR pins.

When I understood the tally interface right, it will give me some voltage on the GPI out #1 e.g. when input #1 is actice on my ATEM switcher.

What I do not know is:
-Can I adjust the output voltage of the tally interface? (GPI out)
-How much is the voltage of the tally interface? (GPI out)

Thanks for your ideas and help.

From the specs:

Outputs
Mechanical relay contact closure to ground. Max 30V at 1A.

They are relay closures, so you can put any voltage up to 30V on the input side of the relay and draw up to 1A. You would use an external power supply for your tallies. There are 8 relay outputs on the Tally Interface.

At most tally systems, you only need to use the relay contact as switcher to connect two lines - no external power supply !

I know what voltage I need on my XLR pins.
- No voltage, only connection. You can test it with a simple wire piece....

When I read the following Diagramm correctly, you will have to connect XLR-pin 1 (Tally) and pin 4 (Tally Ground) for switching tally on

I have 2 Sony HSC100R cameras on Triax connected to HSCU-300's and connected BMD Tally no problem. Jut wire directly between ATEM Tally and CCU DB25 + ground wires.

Much harder was figuring out how to wire in Cleacom audio (which I have if anyone requires).

Thank you for all the information. So the tally interface it self gives no voltage and only closes the connection. According to the last post I only have to connect the GND pin of the interface and the GPI out 1 (e.g.) to the two pins at the CCU. Right?

Can anyone send a photo and wiring diagram of how they did the connection with Blackmagic Tally and CCU (hxcu100 ccu preferred). Especially if you have more than one camera/CCU?
You can depend on the Pro!

Hello Bruce. I don't have this equipment but a quick look on your CCU manual shows the pins on the DB-25 connector on the CCU. For example Camera one would wire this way:

BMD GPI Tally Interface HXCU-100 DB-25
Pin 23 Tally 1 Pin 11
Pin 24 GND Pin 12

To make this work you will need to set the switches on the SY-364 board to the Contact mode outlined in the manual. This is because our relays are a contact closure and do not have voltage.

I hope this helps.
