Blackmagic Design Mini Converter - Analog to SDI

PostTue Nov 29, 2016 10:29 pm

Can I use the Blackmagic Design Mini Converter - Analog to SDI to connect our audio mixer (XLR) the ATEM Television studio video switcher's SDI port?

Yes, and no. The Mini converter needs a Video signal in order to embed the audio inputs into. You could use a Mini black burst generator to input the video signal. A better solution, is to use a audio analog to digital converter (ADC), that will take, the, mixers output and convert it to an AES/EBU2 75-ohm output that the ATEM will accept in its AES BNC audio input, which will allow you to sync the audio to the video inputs and leaves the SDI inputs available for cameras. This is the best solution. Most ADC will have a 110-ohm XLR AES3 output, but you can use a 110 to 75 ohm transformer to convert the XLR 110-ohm to the 75-ohm BNC connection on the TVS. A Neutrik AES/EBU Impedance Transformer - Female B&H # NENADITBNCF MFR # NADITBNC-F for example would work fine.
