Mini Recorder / Monitor 4K on Asus X99 EWS USB 3.1

PostFri Jan 06, 2017 6:01 pm

Hello!

I built a new Livestream-PC with:
- Asus X99 EWS USB 3.1 Mainboard
- 10 Core i7 6950X
- 128GB Ram
- 2x 1TB SSD
- 1x 256GB SSD
- GTX 1080 8GB Turbo (Asus)
- 4x Decklink Mini Recorder 4K
- 1x Decklink Mini Monitor 4K
- Windows 10 (Anniversary Update)
- Desktop Video Driver 10.8.4
- VMIX Pro
- Livestream Studio Software

When using the PC, sometimes all Decklink cards stop working. They not dissapear in device manager but are showing a warning sign. Fail Code 43.

What could be the problem?

Thanks a lot for your help!

I have also the same problem.

I have a Gigabyte X87Z-UD7 TH motherboard with windows 10.
I have a TITAN X Pascal installed in PCIEX16_1 and the Decklink Mini Monitor 4K on PCIEX8_2.
Also a WIFI Card on the PC Express x1 Lane. All the other PCIe sockets are empty.

The card gets recognized then disconnects itself. I have to restart completely in order to get it back.

No real surprise. The motherboard uses plex chips to double up the bus lanes on the board, so I suspect it's dropping out because the Titan-X is saturating the bus lanes

I tried on every port and even removed the titan X. My MB is in the list of approved ones.

I doubt they've even tried the Mini Monitor 4K on those older boards. BM rarely test many motherboards, and I suspect most of that list is from forum users recommending the boards for older BM devices. Only thing I can think to try would be to check you are on the latest BIOS for the board

You were right.
I tested the card in a newer system. MB Z270X-Gaming 7 and it's working fine.
That board does not have a PLX chip.

Hello ;)

I still have problems with the Asus x99 EWS USB 3.1.
I tested also 3 Blackmagic Mini Recorder (no 4K Version), worked good for 30 minutes, then the same failure happend again (code 43, stopped working) on all 3 cards.

Is my motherboard broken? Is someone using the same board (USB 3.1 Version) with the 4K cards?
My older system had a Asus P9X79 board (also with PLX chips), never had problem with them.

Is someone using the i7 6950x (10core) processor with blackmagic cards?

Thank you!

As Adam said above.

Your motherboard uses plex chips to double bus lanes.
This can introduce problems, if several cards are saturating the lanes.

There's a map with the structure od the lanes and plex somewhere.
There you can find which slots happen to share lanes with each other.
Try to avoid these for the Decklinks!

You know, we just got a brand new Livestream HD51 4k which has this exact same motherboard and we are experiencing this exact same issue. Within about 5 minutes of turning on the machine, a random number of decklink cards (it has six) and sometimes the nVidia GPU fail with device manager reporting Error Code 43. You would think that Livstream, being that this is a turnkey system, would have tested this out and been aware of the fact that this motherboard has compatibility issues with Blackmagic Design hardware.

Anyway, I have updated the motherboard BIOS to the most recent version and uninstalled the Blackmagic software and reinstalled the most recent version of Desktop Video (10.8.6) and so far, the cards have not failed after leaving the machine up for a few hours. Will continue to monitor and see if the problem is actually resolved or if it persists.

It is a motherboard bug from Asus related to Broadwell-E CPUs. That motherboard MUST be updated to BiOS v.3502 via FLASHBACK in order to work with Broadwell-E CPUs. The BIOS update via EZFlash would NOT solve the issue.
Good Luck.
