ATEM TVS HD - Cameras assignable to different buttons?

PostTue Feb 21, 2017 2:15 pm

I remember reading somewhere that on the new TVS-HD, the HDMI inputs are locked to source inputs 1-4 on the front panel and sdi inputs are locked to 5-8 on the front panel. In other words, there is no way to use an sdi source and make that become source 1 on the front panel. Is that true?

P. S. I'm Jon Hart. Name change in progress

Hello Jon. The 8 front panel buttons are locked to the 8 inputs as you state. The ability to change this makes a good feature request. No promises however.

Just received my unit today - and this is a big +1 request for that feature.

+1 indeed.. Button mapping is possible on the broadcast panels and in the software.. So the front mapping would be very nice! :D

Button mapping is possible on the broadcast panels and in the software

Not for old Television Studio and I think also not for new TVS version.

Thomas..

In the software and on the BMD control panels you can make a "softpatch" to change the button re-arrangement.

So you could set sources you don't use that often to the back or where you like. ;)

This is done under Preferences > Mapping tab ;)

One thing to consider is that the hardware Buttons on the front of the TVS HD have printed legend buttons numbered 1 thru 8. And the other problem is the backside has silk screen labeling that won't change if you re-assign and more importantly the SDI inputs 5-8 have Outputs that are tied to them with Mix Minus routing for the respective numbered inputs. That would make it very confusing if they buttons were re-mapped in software but the legends on the hardware remain the same.

I find it interesting that BMD chose to put inputs 1-4 as the HDMI as it would be more logical to have SDI as camera inputs (1-4) and Laptops and other devices as HDMI (Inputs 4-8)

I wish there was a way to trigger macros on the front panel.

I thought so too, John, but then it seems like BMD is targeting a very basic, consumer level home broadcaster with the switcher. People who would likely be using hdmi for their cameras. I think BMD expects the pro customers to spring for the 1 or 2 m/e. But it makes things somewhat weird for the prosumer people like me.

It is easy to change the legend on the buttons, same as on almost any switcher panel, just pop the button cap off and separate the clear cover from the white bit. Just did this to my TVS HD...

You can print your own legend on a laser printer as per https://ianmorrish.wordpress.com/2016/06/03/button-templates-for-x-keys/

+ 1 on this feature request. It would be awesome to set the SDI inputs to 1-4 on the physical buttons!!!

I know this thread is about 3 years old, but I want to confirm that the ability to re-map the physical buttons on the front of the TVS HD is still not possible, correct? (I understand I can remap them via the ATEM Software Interface, but that doesn't apply to the physical buttons.)

If this is still not possible, +1 on this request. I mainly switch between 3 sources that are 2 HDMI and 1 SDI and it would be nice to just have them 1-2-3 on the hw front panel. (Funny I can remap the multiview too, but that just makes things more confusing since they don't line up to the physical buttons.)

Thanks!

No changes have been made since to allow the physical buttons to be re-routed. Probably is not possible due to the why the ATEM HD hardware/ buttons are configured. You would need to re-route the corresponding aux outputs as well.

As an update to myself, the workaround I use is to buy a Stream Deck with the Companion app (open source Github project), so now I use the Stream Deck for by switching instead. It's actually a more elegant interface overall since I can program stream deck buttons for macros, change DSK settings, etc... There are other threads in the forum with more details, but I'm posting here in case anyone else finds this thread and wants to know the solution. All good now!!
