ATEM Studio 4K Audio in Issues

I have the ATEM M/E 1 Production Studio. Beginner here, trying to get audio into the switcher. First took a working xlr audio out from my Shure SCM820 mixer to the xlr in on the switcher. Level moved very slightly and was maxed out and couldn't hear a thing. Also put xlr mic directly into the switcher and again nothing. Did see a video where one guy uses an analog to digital converter. Also heard hdmi in will get it done but the mixer doesn't have hdmi on it.
After searching about 12 pages on this forum and no luck with the search query I'm thinking it isn't much of a problem for anyone else and I'm just over thinking this.
If the analog to digital converter is the answer does anyone recommend anything?
Any help is tremendously appreciated.
Thanks

No convertors needed.
We use XLR out from our Behringer X32 into the ATEM and had no issues.

So unless there is hardware problem on the ATEM XLR inputs, the problem is in the software setup.
Troubleshooting using a mic and cable you know are working ok, check the gain settings and what other options you have in the ATEM software audio page to check signal.

Hello John. One thing to try that will verify the input is working. Connect a proper XLR cable from Program Output to Input. Have some audio from a normal source feeding Program (not the aux obviously). You should see the same levels on output as input assuming the controls are not adjusted from zero. This will verify the XLR input to the ATEM. Note the XLR input will not accept microphone levels. Only balanced +4 audio levels.

Thanks Gary, I will try in the morning.
Your last line confused me, "the XLR input will not accept microphone levels. Only balanced +4 audio levels. " So if I connected a regular microphone via xlr into the xlr input of the ATEM nothing will happen? (it didn't when I tried)
Appreciate the support,
John

Microphones are very low level and usually require a pre amp which is usually done in an audio console. The ATEM inputs are +4 Dbm Balanced broadcast audio levels which is generally the standard output of an audio console. So if you want to plug a microphone in, you will need some sort of pre amplifier to bring it up to the +4 level.

This is the biggest issue I see in people not understanding the difference from a pro +4Dbm line level signal and unbalanced -20Db or trying to plug a mic directly into the XLR line level +4Db inputs, and complying the level is too low or they get lots of noise! Of course they will, their levels are too low for the +4Db signal input that is needed. I think part of the confusion is,the XLR connector which is used for both mic and line level signal connections. Next is not inderstanding the difference. :geek:
Cheers.
