Potential Problems going from 720p50 to 720p59.94?

PostMon Mar 20, 2017 1:45 am

For reasons that are at the moment unchangeable ($$), I have 3 video sources coming in at 720p50 that I then route to 3 projectors. The rest of my setup is NTSC, and while the projectors handle it fine I'm worried that cameras capturing the venue will have issues with rolling lines/etc when the screens are seen.
I'd like to take 3 decimators and change to 720p59.94 (or 60), but I'm just curious what to expect.

Will I have scaling/shutter issues? Seems like adding 10 frames (or whatever it's doing) would cause problems, just don't know what. Surely someone has had to do this before?

It may not be possible but if you are mixing for projectors then I would recommend doing any scaling your other sources rather than the cameras. The additional delay on cameras will be far more noticeable and less fixable than with other sources.

Obviously without knowing your setup and signal chain it may not be possible to avoid scaling between camera > mixer > projector.

Thanks for the reply! I apologize I didn't describe my signal chain clearly-- the 3 PAL sources are video playback, not live cameras. They are then sent to the projectors, and the cameras (NTSC) capturing the event are mixed for online/overflow. I'm just worried that if I run my projected content at 720p59.94 upscaled from p50, the cameras filming the stage/screens will have crazy frame lines running down all of the projeced content.

In the States- doing a 3 projector blend using a TripleHead2Go, which of course is the worst output device known to man for broadcast purposes. Trying to find a used Datapath X4, but pickings are slim on Ebay at the moment.

Anyways, the only reliable 3 outputs I can get from the device are 1280x720p50. The Decimator I have can see it. Anything else and there is no output to anything. 1280x720p59.94 will go straight into the hdmi port of the projectors and will work, but will not go into a BM or MD-HX converter to make the SDI run to the projector position. Only plugging in straight HDMI will work (which is to be expected, projectors and TVs seem to be much more forgiving on signal type).

Just a strange problem to have- I realize a Datapath would fix and give me standards, but this is all equipment salvaged from a flooded church, so the budget is going more for sheetrock/doors/etc before we get to tech stuff.

Completely agree with you, but until ProPresenter's makers decide to start supporting more devices for their modules (or just incorporate ProVideoPlayer's output engine into ProP), churches will keep buying them. I'm just trying to make the best of a situation and curious if there are things I can do to mitigate flicker/rolling issues.

Oh my.. TripleDead2Go.. Spend 6 days with drivers, video cards, a second unit and 4 versions of the software..

Sold the box quick on the net because it is TOTAL rubbish!!

If i had spend the money that the the time of configuring it had cost me.. On a nice quad card i would have been cheaper done AND didn't cost me 5 years of my live..

Datapath X4 is the answer. It's works and is cheaper than the days it takes to not get a TH2Go to work
