Hello friends,

BM Design invite to develop softwaretools and apps for her products.
And here is it: we did develop and test an app to use hyperdecks studio and studio pro as a slomo array. We worked on the app the last 9 months and now the app is fine to test it in a beta-test. We are 2 people, i'm rather a specialist in electronics and work in liveproduction for the last 20 years, and the other people - nina- is a software developer in media-related apps with over 20 years experience.

The app is only for IOS devices and works with iPad from model 4 and iPhone from model 6. The name of the app is Hyperslow. We tested the app in aproximate 10 liveevents. One was the Polo Europe Championship in Berlin. You can see this event here :

We can not make a Hyperdeck "better", it was not intend for the perfect slowmotion. But it's the slomo for the "rest of us". And it works good in 720/50p. The Hyperdeck shows then in 50% a good result. Slower it will shutter, depends on the rate.

Now we search for 2 or 3 betatesters. The best is that you work in livesport events, and use 3-4 Hyperdecks.

here 4 photos.

What a difficult sport haha.. And what a big playing field.. Hard to capture with only a few cameras and not enough zoom..

Took some time before i found a slomo but at 12:45 is one.. ;)

So you use 4 hyperdecks? 3 for slomo and 1 stays running for capture? Or how should i see it?

Hi Daniel,

really a big field! It is a part of the Olympia stadium Berlin. It was one oft the first tests of our app. In the later part of the game we learned better to use the slomosystem and our reaction was faster.

It was a not-high budget production. We used 4 Pana HPX 500/2100 Kameras, one with the canon 40x11, connected to the 4 Hyperdecks. So we had a 4 kamera slomo. The looptrough from the Hyperdecks to channel 1-4 of the Atem and the monitor-out to channel 5-8. It was a 10 channel SDI Atem. We had a second mixer for CG and Advertising play in.
We used a 5. Hyperdeck to record the PGM.
And we streamed the event via CDN.

Best Regards, Anett

Sounds interesting. I've used a hyperdeck in a similar way, controlled via RS-422. But slowing down only works for 50p, because for interlaced, BMD doesn't combine 2 individual fields but just shows a single frame. If that were done (and possibly sometimes an image shifted up or down a line) it would be solid in interlaced as well. I know it's possible because I've done it in software (for SD) in the past. I'm still waiting for that feature in the hyperdeck :) And for recording and playing back at the same time (which - in terms of throughput - should be possible for HD). The latter will definitely improve the sales a lot. I have 3 hyperdecks studios now, but I will get 3 more if this is possible.

@Joris, The hardware of the Hyperdecks is build that it will only play out or record.. The used processor is not fast enough to handle both at the same time..

Also there could be a problem with dropped frames if you double the bandwidth to the SSD because of recording while playback.

Only if they put a double core or much more beefed up FPGA (Kintex Virtex family) in the Hyperdeck. And use the latest SSD's which get faster by the year.. It could be possible to do this realtime..

But remember that a EVS (the slomo machine of the broadcast industry) has a raid 5 or raid 10 drive setup to get all the data away fast enough..

19:05
22:30
28:25
31:00
38:50

We did stream the German Weightlifters Cup (Cup of the blue swords) to Youtube yesterday using our SlowMotion Array with 4 Hyperdecks and the Hyperslow App. Here is the Link to Youtube:

The first hour is only the introduction, please go forward to 1,5 hours and you can see, how the SlowMotion system works. Really good are the last 90 minutes.

Here are the photos from the setup.

Hello Hyperdeck user,
the App is in the appstore for a promotion price of 24,99 US-Dollar until August, 1st of 2017.
Please look for "HyperSlow" in the Apple appstore.
Furthermore in MacObserver a short articel about HyperSlow appeared.

Hi, Anett again, I have some news some of you might be interested in. We have released „HyperSlow V2.0”, a low cost slow-motion system for HyperDecks.

The app named „HyperSlow“ is available in the AppStore.

I always had in mind, that for a really great solution, the software should take over the control of the switcher when playing back multiple slomo sequences from different angles. And my software engineer made it, we can control the ATEM switcher now! So, the “SuperPlay” function now performs stinger and other transformations, plays back a scene from HyperDeck, switches to next HyperDecks, plays back, etc.And you no longer need to have time code synchronized cameras for that.

And we added two more event types for tagging interesting moments of an event. You can still export the event list as Excel file (e.g. via e-mail or AirDrop) and open it on your PC. After importing your recorded content into Adobe Premiere, you can easily jump to marked events by copy/pasting the timecode from the list.

We have been asked several times: What about HyperDeck Mini? We have prepared HyperSlow to deal with the Mini decks, but we have to wait for the new firmware coming soon from BM to fix some isssues on these devices, e.g. the black recorded clips. We hope to officially support the Minis with our next release.

On invitation of Fight24TV people we were visiting the Kickmas Fightnight Hamburg to test our app and joined a great sport spectacle, broadcasteted via livestream to the world. With our app we controlled an ATEM Liveswitcher with 10 channels SDI and 4 Hyperdeck Studio to provide the greatest moments of the fights in SlowMotion. After 30 minutes training we had a good workflow with the program mix workplace, he mixed the livecams, the SlowMotion output from our ATEM, and the sport graphics downstreamkey on a second ATEM.The result can be seen here in the video of the european championship fight Toprak vs. Pratnik.

HyperSlow ready for Blackmagic HyperDeck Mini

After the Blackmagic Firmware update 1.8 for the HyperDeck Studio Mini (contained in the update 5.2 for “Blackmagic HyperDeck Setup“ for Mac or Windows), our HyperSlow 2.1 app is able to work with the HyperDeck Mini. We integrated and tested the app with a setup of different HyperDecks and implemented some adaptions for the Mini. Particularly the escape time from rec to play mode and back demanded some adjustments. The app now checks the model for HyperDeck Mini and sends special commands to devices identified as such.

A note regarding video connection with HyperDeck Mini: the Mini doesn't have a continuous EE-live output, which means, in play mode the deck only transmits the play signal on both SDI outputs.
If you need the camera live signal on your switcher at all times, you have to distribute it before connecting it to the HyperDeck Mini, e.g. with a HDSDI distributor.

Hyperslow is an amazing app !
It is truly amazing how layered it is, this app has made it possible for a one man show use slow-motion replays in a live situation VERY possible !

Thanks to Saskia and the Liveskills team !

Hello BMD friends,

we LiveSkills released V 2.2.1 of the HyperSlow instant replay app for up to 4 HyperDecks.

The improvements:

- auto record after SuperPlay ( SuperPlay = playing the same event from different view angles one after another), HyperDecks are switching now after SuperPlay back to record automatically

- ready for the HyperDeck BMD update 6.0

https://liveskills.net/hyperslow/

See also our other recently released app, HyperSynchron to control up to 16 HyperDecks in record and playback. With the smart error manager and speech output from the iOS device, record timer and single deck popup to control and adjust the settings of every connected deck.
