BM DVI extender vs HDMI->SDI micro converter?

Looking into adding a Datapath X4's outputs to my SmartHub, but the DVI extenders are $395/ea-- any benefit to going with them over just simply plugging a DVI-HDMI cable into a micro converter for each output?

Obviously BM sells both, so surely there is a use case for the more pricy DVI extender?

I think the main difference is that the DVI extender allows injecting of audio.

MicroConverter will only take audio that is on the HDMI which you can't get with most DVI to HDMI cables.

The other difference may be in how flexible the resolution and Framerate detection/setting works.
The DVI extender doesn't support 1080p50/60 but has lots of PC standard resolutions whereas the Miniconverter (don't have one on me at the moment) will probably just have the standard broadcast ones, including 1080p50/60.

None of these converters support scaling.

I would get Decimator MD-HX. this will be a requirement if you want to get your datapath x4 outputs into an atem running 1080i
