4k Multiview - ATEM 2ME Broadcast Studio 4k

PostThu Apr 27, 2017 8:23 pm

Using an ATEM 2 M/E Broadcast Studio 4K Switcher and notice that the 4k option for multi-view is at 29.97 and the 1080i mode is at 59.94. We currently have the switcher set at 1080i 59.94 and we have a 4k flat-panel for Multi-view. But when we select the 4k option the multi-view looks bad and so we reset the multi-view option back to 1080.
I would like to have a better understanding as to why this is happening - obviously it would be great to have a 4k multi-view monitor working - do we have to set the switcher global video at 29.97 in order for the 4k multi-view to work or should it work fine and we have other issues?.
We have a nearly identical monitor that we use for another station that is fed from a BM MultiView 16 - it functions beautifully - so I am surprised that we are having this issue.

Thanks for any insight.

I have the same switcher with multiview connected to a 4k monitor, and it looks fine to me. Can you confirm it's actually sending a 2160p signal out?

Yes - sending the Multiview SDI out through a Teranex - taking the loop out for this monitor and down converting for other multiviews that we feed to the production team. The teranex shows the correct resolution and frame rate. The photos show both 2k and 4k multiviews and what is happening at the 4k setting.

Regarding which firmware version: The results are the same running 6.9, 7.0 & 7.1. I have also routed the multiview signal to another monitor that runs at 4k using the BM Multiview 16.

A few questions:
  1. Is the the input to the 4K monitor over SDI or HDMI?
  2. If HDMI, what are you using to convert the SDI multi-view output from the ATEM?
  3. Is the Multiview 16 connected to the 4K monitor over HDMI or SDI?

I noticed this with a PC monitor for a field kit we have. Same switcher, multiview SDI output going into BMD SDI to HDMI 4K converter, going into the monitor. Picture was blurry and weird, setting multiview format to 1080p fixed it. Swapped the monitor input from one HDMI port to another, and the issue was corrected.

A few questions:
Is the the input to the 4K monitor over SDI or HDMI?
Ans: SDI (50ft) then HDMI (3ft)

If HDMI, what are you using to convert the SDI multi-view output from the ATEM?
Ans: Blackmagic SDI to HDMI 4k Converter.

Is the Multiview 16 connected to the 4K monitor over HDMI or SDI?
Ans:The Multiview16 is connected in the same fashion the SDI cable length is about 15ft further. SDI to BM SDI to HDMI converter to 3ft HDMI Cable.

Does the 4K monitor you are using have any options to display the input signal format? I'm curious if the monitor is actually getting a 2160p2997 input signal over HDMI.

I believe the SDI to HDMI 4K Mini Converter will automatically downconvert a 4K input signal to HD if it thinks the HDMI display on the other end only supports HD signals.

If you use the Teranex to downconvert the 2160p2997 multi-view signal to HD (1080p2997) and send it to the same monitor does it still look bad?
