SDI to HDMI/Talkback converter

PostMon Jun 26, 2017 10:07 pm

Hi guys

I was wondering if there is an alternative to the ATEM studio converter in order to use talkback with third parties cameras?

My setup would be like this:

1x ATEM Studio television PRO HD
2x Sony camera streaming on HDMI

I would like to connect the camera with the switch via an HDMI to SDI converter.
But I would also like to use the function of tally and talkback.
Is there a way to use it?

The device should have the following properties:
1 x SDI Input to switch
1 x SDI Output to switch
1 x HDMI
1 x Talback conncetion (Audio jack)

or can I use the ATEM Camera Converter for my purpose?

Thanks for the answers

The ATEM talkback is embedded into channels 15 and 16 of the return SDI feed so.
You can use a Micro converter SDI to AUdio and switch it to ch 15/16 (yes it CAN do it despite documentation) and you can use a BMD Arduino Shield on the same return SDI feed to get a tally (I sell these units if you can't DIY it).

Alright but can I have a two way connection, with only one audio converter? Or do I need two audio converters?

You will need to Embed the return talkback back into the camera output.

Yeah thats clear that I have to embed the audio into the return camera input.
But Do I also have to take out the audio, so that I'm able to listen to the talkback?
In this case I need two audio converters right?

Hi there!

Does anyone know how to use the CCU, the talk back and the tally on ATEM Television Studio Pro HD on the 4 HDMI inputs? I have BMD Studio cameras, and on the 4 SDI inputs it works great. No idea how to do the same on HDMI inputs... Is that possible to do? :?:

Hello Thomas. It's not always a good idea to bring up old threads with new questions as it is easily overlooked and may not provide the answers you need. That said, I answered this question in this thread:

Hope this helps. Regards, Gary
