TL;DR used a $20 HDMI Pass-Through EDID Emulator
I'd seen quite a few posts on this forum where people were having trouble trying to get GoPros working with other versions of the ATEM, but hadn't seen any for the new ATEM Television Studio HD. So I went ahead a bought one anyway (hoping for the best). Unfortunately I discovered that while it worked fine with my GoPro Hero 5 at 720p60 and 1080p30, it just presented a black screen at 1080p60.
After a bit of research, I concluded that it must be something to do with the EDID that the ATEM was sending out the HDMI, and the way the GoPro was interpreting it. Since I'd already sunk a few thousand dollars into gear, I thought I'd give some cheap EDID pass-thru emulators a go that I found on aliexpress. And what do you know, they totally worked!
My theory about why this works is that the ATEM is not actually sending out resolution/framerate info on the EDID, and so the GoPro plays it safe and goes for 1080p30. But the emulator sends out a whole lot of different resolutions ranked in order of bitrate. The GoPro uses the highest setting in the list that it can output to which just happens to be 1080p60!
Anyway, whatever. I'm just really glad it works now, and hope this will be helpful to someone else in the same position as me!
