ATEM 1 M/E multi view output resolution

PostWed Mar 20, 2013 5:35 pm

Is it possible to set the multi view output to 1080i (1920*1080) even if the switcher setting is in 720p?
I would like to take advantage of the full HD monitor to improve image quality in multi view...

thanks

The Multiview out is always running in 1080i irrespective of the ATEM's mode of operation. Makes sense really. If it were any other way that would be a bit of a problem.

Just tested: if I set the switcher standard to 1080i also the multi view HDMI output is 1080i but when I set the switcher standard to 720p also the multi view HDMI output change to 720p.

Where am I doing wrong?
Thanks a lot.

No idea. How are you verifying the HDMI Multiview resolution?

Simply from the info menu of the monitor... but it's clear also from the quality of the images on the monitor

I guess I have not noticed the quality drop. I do run in 720p mode rather than 1080i. Other (many) posts on this forum and others stated the same (Multiview sticks at 1080i)... so I never went looking further. It would not make any sense for the multiview to ever go down to SD settings.

I found one older post which stated the multiview is natively running at 720p anyway... but that if you switch the ATEM in to 1080i mode it will display at that standard (but internally it's still 720p).

Hi,

I had used a SDI monitor to check the Multi Viewer resolution. The Multi Viewer outputs in 720p when operating in HD 720p mode and 1080i when operating in SD, SD 16:9 and Full HD 1080 modes. I'm not able to verify the results on a HDMI monitor as I don't have one which is able to tell the specific format.

Hope this bit of information might resolve your doubts.

I wonder if there is less of a delay in 720P multiview mode? If someone could verify the HDMI outputs that would be a help. Not that it is a big deal, but if you run in 720p which a lot of people do, getting a 720p monitor might be an option

I don't know about the ATEM, but probably the monitor has lower delay in 720p ! It does not need to deinterlace.
Technically speaking, it is only possible to display interlaced on an LCD if the screen has 1080 physical lines (or a multiple). But I don't think there are many monitors that actually do this.

Might be something to think about, especially if you are working in 720P, sometimes I know people get confused about where the delay is coming from when they see it on the Multiview, thinking all of it is in the camera/Atem, when in fact many frames of delay can be added in the monitor.
