The ATEM TVS HD does not support video media clips. You can however, have an external device as a source connected to play the videos if need be.

Hey,

thanks for the answer. So do you have a "smooth" way to use another source. My first tought was a PC which I connect like a camera...but them the viewer can see the player and that looks a little bit shabby.

You can look at the HyperDeck line of products for a playback solution.

Cheapest option, use screen monkey it's free. If you have multiple heads on the video card you could run the GUI on the pc screen sending video out through the hdmi or purchase vmix HD $60, agn running the GUI on the pc monitor screen using its HDMI out as a feed to the atem.
Or as Tony says use a hyperdeck card (decklink mini monitor is prob the cheapest) and any software that makes use of that, agn vmix, or wirecast, livestream producer, almost any of the lower cost pc switcher type softwares can do this. Many have options to create play lists to make it simple to que up videos where / if needed.

You have a couple of options to solve this problem with a PC:

1. Basic single monitor setup
If your PC has a graphics card that only supports a single monitor, you can still achieve the video play with what you want to do. Using a video player like VLC you can cue your video, pause it, and then set the video player window to full screen. That removes all the window handles etc. Control the video from that point onwards with hotkeys if you need to stop/start while on display. Do all of your prep/cueing for this before you switch to the source on the ATEM.

The main issue with this is if you use hotkeys while the video is full screen it does show the video controls (e.g. the play/pause symbols) momentarily when you use them.

2. Dual Monitor + software with "projector" capability
If your PC supports dual monitors, then add the ATEM input as your second monitor. Then using software like Xsplit, you can have the software open on one monitor, load the video into it, and then select the option to output to a projector/2nd external monitor. This outputs the video you're playing "cleanly" and any controls that you press happen on the 1st monitor and are not visible to viewers.

Hi
not so cheap, but a clean way is to install a decklink card an play the Video over sdi or HDMI in the switcher...
The graphic Cards mostlty dont have a really HDMI framerate and then the Signal is negotiatedt from the atem switcher
then you can play with the Software that comes with the Driver.
if you want, then you can play and record with ffmpeg too:
record: https://trac.ffmpeg.org/wiki/Capture/Blackmagic
Play: https://www.ffmpeg.org/ffmpeg-devices.html#decklink-1
from a commandline

Just to save you some frustration if you go down the ffmpeg path, decklink support is no longer included in the public distro's (some licensing issue) so you will get an error when trying to specify decklink option.

You can get old builds (2016) from http://ffmpeg.zeranoe.com/builds/ which include DeckLink support.

For an SDI test signal, I use this player http://www.bumblebee.website/dlvplayer_product.html
as you can set any supported DeckLink card output regardless of the video file format.
Eval copy of home edition just has color line top and bottom of play out. Much less overhead than running CasparCG.

If only VLC had DeckLink support (don't wast your time searching for this).
