Yes, but the Video Assist is a camera recorder, not a dedicated playback device. In the Pro video workflow, you record the camera video in camera orbto an external recorder, then hand over the media to a data wrangler to check playback on a computer. So adding the feature to be able to check files in the field is a nice feature, you just need to disconnect the VA from the camera, so it releases the locked in signal resolution.
I used to record on my Pocket camera, now a Micro Cinema camera, remove the media and play it back in a free standing VA. Also, by changing input on the VA from HDMI to SDI, the the input signal from HDMI is disconnected (same as unplugging, but quicker) and then the VA would play back the entire series of clips, this worked very well.
