Are ATEM color grades applied to clips recorded in-camera?

PostSun Sep 10, 2017 2:26 pm

Was on a shoot where 4 BM cameras were matched using an ATEM 1 M/E Production Studio 4K with the broadcast panel. However, the clips recorded in-camera had no correction applied. The cameras were set to video, but the clips were recorded flat (Film). Is the grade only applied to the switcher outputs? And the cameras forced to record Film? Is this the expected behavior?

Which cameras were you using? You should be able to set the camera (via camera menu) to record in Video Rec 709 format. Camera outputs are controlled in a different menu (useually Monitor menu).

Cameras were 2 Micro Studios, an UM 4.6K and UMP. All were set to record Rec 709 video in the Record and Monitor menus. Film mode was not selected.

From pg 178 of the UM/UMP manual:"DaVinci Resolve color correction is applied to your URSA Mini’s SDI Output and ProRes video recorded on camera." I have no idea why we're seeing Film mode being recorded in-camera.

Hello John. There may be a bit of confusion. The Micro Studio cameras do not have any record in camera capability. The Micro Cinema cameras do not have any ATEM CCU control. You are probably talking about the Micro Cinema Camera. You should be able to record video mode in camera.

Thanks, Gary.. I asked more questions and the Studio cams were graded from the ATEM and recorded by KiPros and color was fine. It was the UM and UMP that recorded in Film dynamic range, despite being set to Video in the Record pg 2 menu. At the ATEM, both the UM & UMP looked fine after color grading. Is it possible that if the Front SDI and/or Main SDI monitors were set to Display 3D LUT, but, with no LUT loaded, would the camera record in Film? What might force the camera to record in Film, when the camera was set to Video in the Record menu?
