Hey Guys,

im new here, so please dont be angry at me for not doing everything right!

My Hyperdeck Studio Mini didnt record the video source within the file after everything went right with my first file recorded(about 90gb in prores lt).

So i got an file about 90gig without any readable video but the audio is working.

The first file is completly fine

Can anyone help? Is this normal? Is this an firmware bug?

Was the card reformatted before attempting to record again?

i dont think that i have. I copied it to my notebook and deleted just the files from the sd card.

So i wouldnt call it formatting...

But i used 2 different sd cards, the first two videos were recorded to the first sd card and the other ones after that to the second. So it doenst matter that i didnt reformatted?

Two things:

1) You didn't mention the brand of SD cards used so it could just be luck that they're on the approved list. Please go ahead and check the support page of the website for the list of cards we'd suggest using and have been approved by us.

2) Copying/deleting files via the computer will not reformat the card and could have left the card fragmented. Reformat the card either on your computer or within the Hyperdeck itself.

I've been experiencing the same issue Christoph reported across 3 of the 7 units we purchased, using several different Sandisk Extreme PRO 64GB and 128GB SD cards. The cards were formatted in the Mini before use, and the units all came with the most recent firmware.

The units will record correctly many times, and then suddenly record only black with audio. This doesn't happen in the middle of a clip, only when a new clip is started. There doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason as to when it records ok and when we just get black with audio. One worked fine for 2 months and then acted up, 2 others were problematic several hours out of the box. As others have also reported (viewtopic.php?f=4&t=61137), the correct video imaged is on the preview monitor and the HDMI output while recording. Also, it always takes a different number of power cycles before it will record correctly again; sometimes one, last week it was five.

I spoke to BM phone support twice; several weeks ago, and again several days ago. Both times it was stated that no one else had reported the issue. I received an RMA to send a unit to them to do some tests on.

I hope this can be solved soon, it's very unnerving to not know if you're going to end up with video or not.

So the Mini, having dual SD card slots, does not allow you to record to BOTH SD cards? I would think that would be standard to create a backup.

The Mini operates in the same fashion as the older, bigger models. The feature of having to slots is to have the footage rollover to another storage medium if the first fills up.

If you want redundancy, use multiple decks. There are a bunch of single points of failure that recording to two cards will not protect you from.

This is recording issue is critical for those of us experiencing it.

Add us to the list of also having this issue.

Have been running the Studio Mini for a few months now, without any issues.

We're a church, and didn't notice that this morning's sermons (2 of them) were recorded without video. Audio is perfect.

A small test recording prior to this worked great, though.

We then were going to record our evening sermon, and the same thing happened!

We're using SanDisk Extreme PRO 128gb cards, which are on the recommended list.

We had another week of blank recordings. After talking with Blackmagic Support, they suggested:

1. Using another SD Card
2. Changing the codec

We have 3 cards, so we're rotating to another one to confirm it's not that, as well as changed to Prores codec (from Prores LT)

We're still worried, though, since they obviously couldn't duplicate the issue.

Anyone else still having this problem? Did you figure out how to replicate it?

Hi I had this happen also. when it happened to me the screen was black so I did a hard reset by pulling the power and it worked fine. I've also run into the record locking up when its connected to a rs422 controller. some times the record wont stop.

Same over here, first attempt works but when start recording again no video just audio.
Please help us out. Had to rerecord twice now this week with the internal recorders of te camera and do the edit in post.

I strongly suggest avoiding use of this product until a fix is found and released.

I've spoken to BM support on the phone several times, and we're going to send one of our units to them to to look at in their lab. However, last time I spoke to them they "had received no other reports" of this issue. At the time I spoke them, there were several comments on the two form threads about this, and sent them the links. So if you're having trouble please call their support line: (408) 954-0500. Maybe if we all keep pressing this issue in numbers they'll admit/find/fix the issue and work towards regaining trust.

After experiencing this problem across our of units since August, we're finally removing and replacing our 9 units on Monday with solid but inferior products. This is going to be very costly for us, and embarrassing, increasing volume of lost recordings has become too much to handle.

We have tried several approved cards, different frame rates, different codecs. Once we had a file that would play in VLC, and was a corrupted file, but that was an anomaly.

This is a phenomenal product when it works! (Just missing H264 recording option for our use). But, we have lost all faith in it at this point. And, lots of credibility with our students and faculty...

Mileage may vary.. We are using the Mini for redundant backup (luckily), our main record is the Studio 12G that's had no issues encoding ProRes like this.

I am still getting random but increasing black video recordec with audio. BM checked unit, said nothing was wrong. Said to check with cards manufacturer. Any others still facing same issue. It's hard. Joe

Sadly, we experienced this issue yesterday. 1h live to tape ended up with brillant audio and no picture (black).

We run a sdi out from the mini and feed into the multiview. In addition, yesterday, we also had a big audience screen feeding off the hdmi out on the mini. We had picture all the time during the event, but nothing off the card afterwards
