Using Blackmagic ultrastudio mini with sony a6000 for live

PostThu Oct 12, 2017 9:55 am

Hi!

I am trying to get a Sony a6000 to work with Blackmagic Ultrastudio mini for live streaming with Ecamm live. Everything seems to work fine except that I can not get the hdmi-signal out from the camera without any text in the display. It will at least show the aperture and shutter time settings.

Does anyone have any suggestion, or is this a bad idea?

a6000 should have a clean HDMI out setting, but you should not use it this way. It's only good for 10-15 minutes of shooting before it starts overheating, and you could damage the sensor.

Overheating is a real issue with these "35mm cameras"

I just found a Youtube video by searching for "How to get Clean HDMI Out of Sony a6000". Can't post links here. Yes, overheating is a problem. I think we will be under 15 minutes though. I have lifted up the lcd to get some ventilation before. I suppose the overheating issue isn't worse when using hdmi-out compared to recording?

Overheating should not be a problem unless you are actually recording on the A6000. We just did a production last week and used the A6500 for over 5 hours with no overheating issues at all.
