1080p29.97 SDI into ATEM Television Studio Pro HD

PostWed Oct 25, 2017 10:08 pm

Forgive me if this is a noob question, but I am trying to feed a Panasonic AG-UX180 into the ATEM via SDI at 1080p29.97. If I have the ATEM Video Format set to 1080p29.97 I see nothing, but if I set it to 1080p59.94 I can see the camera.

The problem is that I want to stream the Program output of the ATEM at 29.97 because I don't want to tax the streaming computer (a 2013 Mac Pro running Wirecast Pro 8) with frame rate conversion, and I don't want to tax my network with the higher frame rate video.

I would like a 1080p29.97 video all through the chain. Is this not possible, or am I misunderstanding something?

Thanks for any replies,

Your camera is not able to output this framerate on sdi. Your setting is Recording setting and not output setting.
Also if you would get it right. Then you wont be able to put a laptop or pc to your mixer as they Will never Go as low as 29fps. 50/60 is sometimes already difficult as videocards are designed for much higher framerate.

And don't forget you Will end up with choppy pan's and zooms and Fast motion if you Go down to 29 FPS.

That is Why television is all running 50/60 FPS.

Thank you for your reply. I had figured out that the System Frequency of 59.94 is what is being output over SDI, which as you said is different from recording frame rate. I also remembered that I had a Teranex Express, and I'm experimenting with taking the 59.94 output from the ATEM and converting to 29.97. So far so good, at least in my office. Bonus is that it has two SDI outs, so I can send one to an ATOMOS Shogun and the other to our streaming computer.

I'm pretty new to this but hasn't 29.97 been a standard for decades? Why would pans and zooms be choppy? Is this something related to digital vs analog?

The event is a big community gathering in a football stadium, to commemorate the fires we just suffered here in Santa Rosa. It will be state and local politicians speaking at a lectern, so there will not be any fast pans or zooms- mostly pretty static talking heads, with occasional medium shots and audience reaction.

Thanks again for your reply- appreciate it!

I am currently dealing with this very issue with my Panasonic AG-DVX200. The problem with having the pipeline set at 1080p 59.94 is that my Hyperdeck Studio cannot record video at 1080p 59.94! :x
