Smart Videohub Application Question

PostSun Nov 26, 2017 10:22 pm

Hello, I am helping a client wire his studio with components that were specified by a prior employee.

Basically hooking up:
1ea ATEM Television Studio Pro HD
1ea ATEM Smart Videohub 20x20
3ea ATEM Hyperdeck Studio Mini
1ea ATEM Smart Scope Duo 4k
1ea Yamaha audio mixer
4ea Studio Monitors and 1 Classroom Feed

My question is if the Smart Videohub should be placed between the cameras and the Television Studio Pro?

Or

Should it be after the Television Studio Pro?

I am thinking between the cameras and the hub would allow the most flexibility for future sources etc.. Thoughts??

I prefer to set things up broadcast truck style, with all switcher inputs and outputs going through the router.

Hi Paul,

I have all sources going through the videohub first and then routed to where they are needed.

Greater flexibility. For example, instead of physically having to change cables around on cameras for sequencing, you can just reroute through software.

And you all go black if the video hub fails.

That is why you invest in a good router and have double power supplies to keep it up with a backup power.

If your mixer fails you can always switch on your router. Oke it is not as clean and nice as with a video switcher. but you are able to.. If everything is connected to your video switcher and it locks up for any reason your only option is a reboot or unplug cameras en connect directly to output sources..

I rather bet on a good router :D

I pretty much had assumed that was the way to go however was second guessing myself since I have not wired many studio systems in the past 10 years.

Thanks everyone for your responses. Took me a bit to wrap my head around someone else’s design and your feedback helped!
