Force input format on teranex

PostThu Nov 30, 2017 1:35 pm

Hi,

I have a macbook pro, that I am connecting to the teranex via HDMI.
When I do that, the external display that the mac "sees" seems to be a 2K-display.
Is it possible to have the Teranex appear as a 1080p-display to the Mac, so that the Mac can/will output a 1080p signal directly? Instead of scaling it in the Teranex?

As a Teranex 2D and Mac user I can't figure what you mean. Care to explain in more detail?

Sounds like the EDID of the Teranex is leading the Mac to use a 2K resolution and not 1920x1080. OP, try using SwitchResX or similar.

As Jack Fairley said.

And I know about the software-solutions for the mac, I just hoped there was a way I could avoid having to install something every time that a new person is sitting in.

But, it is not a deal breaker. Just want to check if possible.

Is the default OS X-way of changing resolution not working for you?

Display -> Gather Windows -> Resolution: Set to Scaled -> Select Resolution and Refresh Rate. Check "Show Low Resolution Modes" if necessary to get all options.

I tried that, but the Teranex still saw the input as being 2160p30,

but trying with a program called "Disable Monitor" (it does more) to force the output to 1080p60 got the Teranex to see a 1080p60 input signal.

It might be worth putting an EDID emulator inline to trick the mac into seeing the correct resolution.

There are various decent emulators out there but I recently brought a cheap one that can save the resolution from another display or emulator. The advantage of this unit is that it doesn't require power and sits in line.

I find that if you put the teranex in Upconvert for 4K. It also updates it's EDID table and allows / forces the HDMI input to 4K also..

Have a Teranex mini HDMI to Optical when you toggle the upconvert mode the video card switches resolution..
But this might be only apply to the 4K versions..
