Decklink Duo with ATEM HD

Hello to all,
I am having a problem getting a set of hardware to play nice together. We have 2 Sony D70 cameras outputing NTSC composite video. We convert each to SDI SD, then feed into a Decklink Duo 2 card where we want to upconvert to 1280x720x59.94 and feed into an ATEM Television Studio HD.

We can view the ntsc streams in media express viewer via the thunderbolt connection so we know the video is getting to the decklink duo 2.

If we set the decklink duo 2 to NTSC format and also set the ATEM to NTSC then we have video being output into the ATEM but other componets no longer work because they are HD and the ATEM needs to see all streams at the same resolution.

We need to have the Decklink Duo upconvert to HD but cannot get the settings mastered to do so.

Anyone who has some insight on what I'm trying to do please feel free to ask more questions.

Thanks in advance,
Brad

You may be able to do this by setting a channel on the the card to perform an up conversion, if it supports it. Look under the "Conversions" tab:

Then set up Media Express (if possible) to use one channel as input and the "converting channel" as output. Then set ME on the "Capture" tab. I don't have any duplex cards so I can't test this myself.

If you can't do this with BM software, the media framework GStreamer should perform this conversion. I have tested this on my system with both hardware conversion (with a HD Extreme3D+ card) and in software (GStreamer).

Dave.

Thanks Dave for taking time to look into this. I did end up getting a tech support rep from BM on the line trying to help me get the Decklink Duo 2 card to do a simultaneous input/upconvert/output into a live TV ATEM HD and he concluded that the hardware was not capable of doing this.

I could get the card to upconvert a stream during capture, as well as get an SD video to output as HD from the card, but not to do it live on the fly.

I would love for someone to prove their tech support wrong since I have this hardware now. But I think we will need to add in an updowncross converter to achieve what we thought this card would do for us.

The tech support checked with his superior tech support chain and go back to us later in the day today via email that this is, in fact a hardware limitation of the card.

Thanks Again,
Brad

I'm fairly certain the dl duo has no ability to natively scale your captured image. The software is generic across the decklink range and the conversion tab is for use with dl cards that have that ability ie the dl up-down-cross cards.

What ur suggesting in using the duplex function of the duo 2 and gstreamer s/ware is a very clever solution, and I'm guessing also possible with ffmpeg also, wouldn't of thought of that myself. ✔

GStreamer can do the conversion (and de-interlacing) for you in software then. I added an old Decklink Optical Fibre card to one of my HD Extreme3D dev machines converting 576i/50 to 720p/50, CPU use was around 7% on an older i7. All hardware conversions switched off.

Dave.

Very interesting concept. Unfortunately I don't think this solution will do what we need it to do currently. We have a custom designed app using the SDK for switching camera feeds from the stage speaker to members of the audience who are commenting on camera (sign language) and need the process to be automatic for simplicity to the operator. I may suggest this solution to the developers as we have many other locations that may benefit if we can work a software conversion into the app. I'll play around to see if I can make it work, albeit not automatically like we need.

Again, thank you very much for taking time to help me out!
