Tally Lamp on SDI?

PostMon Jan 15, 2018 1:20 am

Hi guys,

currently we use multiple HDMI cams for a live production.
We think about switching to the ATEM switchers and use at least one of those micro hdmi to sdi converters.
Since we really wish to use tally lights on our hdmi canon cams and the micro converter has one sdi loop out: is there a way or a product to get a tally working on that sdi? I could image that I connect the loop out to a lamp which uses those tally lamp signals?

Thanks for the help!

Hello Flo. To get tally information back to the camera you will need to send Program SDI from the switcher back to the camera. Then the Tally signal must be extracted from the SDI using the Arduino Shield. This would not be a convenient method to do this. The best method is to use the Blackmagic GPI Tally Box and simply run a pair of wires back to each camera. The GPI Tally box is connected Ethernet to the ATEM and will support tally relay contact closure for up to 8 non BMD cameras.
