Hi all,
New to the forum, but have tried searching everywhere with no luck. I've seen what I believe are similar issues but nothing explained that sounds quite like ours that had a confirmed answer.
We currently have an iMac that goes HDMI out into an HDMI-to-SDI micro converter. From there, one output goes to an ATEM switcher and the other runs up to an SDI-to-HDMI converter and into two TVs (one through the HDMI out, one through the SDI loop). The iMac also has another output connected via VGA to a TV we use as a stage display in the back.
We are running into the following issue: every so often we randomly have the TVs flicker like the input dropped and came back (roughly a second). The output on the ATEM drops as well and comes back. Otherwise, the picture is completely clear. The resolution from the iMac to the converter states 1080i60 (not sure if this is different than 59.94). The fact that both the TVs and the ATEM flickers tells me it is the HDMI-to-SDI converter and not somewhere else in the chain. The fact that the computer doesn't auto-adjust like it lost an input has me stumped though. To me, that would eliminate the HDMI cable as a potential issue. We swapped converters with another we have and found both do it, but only with the computer connection.
Has anyone seen anything like this before? Could it be the 59.94 versus 60 thing? I'm not entirely sure how to confirm the iMac really outputs at 60 or 59.94 and if that would cause an occasional flicker or if that would just cause the output to just not work. Anyone have any thoughts here?
Thanks!
