ATEM 4 M/E Broadcast Studio 4K (Mix input)

First time here.
I am just writing to see if the new ATEM 4 M/E Broadcast Studio 4K is finally allowed to mix incoming sources. If not, does blackmagic or someone else make good upscalers for 1080p 29.97 to 2160 29.97 or other frame rates. Basically if I needed to add a camera on the fly, and used and older sdi-out camera, can I just upscale it rather than change the production down the the lowest common denominator.

Just get a scaler, and keep in your kit? I wouldn't go anywhere serious without a scaler for backup. Then there's no need to go down to the "lowest common" denominator.

Costs $500 USD for a more than decent one, less than you'd probably pay (in processing time and money) by having it in the switcher. Heck, build it in as a part of the rack, if you happen upon this often.

Have any 1080 to 4k upscalers you would recommend?

Teranex AV or Teranex mini depending on what in and outputs you need.

There are other 4K scalers on the market.. (not that many that will do upscaling) but they all exceed the BMD price by 2 times or much more.. ;)

Oh, right, you wanted UHD output. Doh, that's what I get for reading too fast, sorry about that.

For 12G-SDI I'd say the Teranex is the first place I'd look, but not sure how good the end result will be. Thats $1400 for 6G and $1700 for 12G, not $500, as a decent 3G-SDI scaler would be.

Thank you all for your thoughts. Its too bad the switcher can't handle multiple sources.

Only software computer mixers or roland mixers (with scalers on every input) will take mixed sources.. Broadcast is all about same resolution and framerates..

Well the new ATEM 4K Pro will independently scale the 8 inputs to match the switcher format setting.
Cheers

And also has more processing delay. Specs mention About 6 lines instead of 2.
Wonder what the actual delay Will Be if you upscale a 720p source to 2160..
the teranex av even in low latency mode takes a frame or 3 for that. Which is quite notishable.
We Will see what the future brings
