2160p59.94 URSA Broadcast Output in Video Mode?

PostTue Apr 24, 2018 3:06 pm

Hello,

On my URSA Broadcast Camera how do I get 2160p59.94 output in Video Mode? I see the only way to get to 59.94 frames at 2160p is to go to RAW but then the camera only give me the Film mode which isn't the video color that I am wanting on my SDI Output. Is there anyway to use this as a Broadcast Camera with everything not revolving around the record options.

Blake, so the menu will not let yiu select 2160p50.94, or you are not getting an output? If the latter, are you using a 12G SDI cable? The Micro Studio tops out at 21060p30 in Video (only mode available), which I thought is a hardware limitation due to the sensor readout time at the higher resolution. The Boradcast Camera Specs show it should do 2160p59.94 without any limitations (Raw Mode as a recording limitation I can see, but it should be able to output this signal also. You might contact BM Support directly and ask them this.
Cheers

The issue is I have to set the recording codec to RAW to get 2160p59.94 out of the the camera SDI Out. Hence RAW records in "Film" Mode so it changes the colors of the camera to match "Film" mode recording. How can I get 12G SDI Out in Video Mode??

Good question, BM Support May be able to answer this. Can you apply a LUT to the main SDI output? If so, that might be a possible solution, apply a Video LUT. I assume Extended Video did not work either?
12G SDI supports 2160p60, so I would think this should work?

I do not have my Ursa Broadcast camera yet, so I can not answer this directly. I just sent a msg to BM Support, let’s see what their response is.

Good Call on the Lut. I applied the Lut "From Broadcast Film to Video" and it fixed my issue I was seeing.

Heard back from BM Support,
The output of the URSA Broadcast supports the following:

HD Video Standards: 1080p23.98, 1080p24, 1080p25, 1080p29.97, 1080p30, 1080p50, 1080p59.94, 1080p60 (Interlaced output via SDI 1080i50, 1080i59.94, 1080i60)
Ultra HD Video Standards: 2160p23.98, 2160p24, 2160p25, 2160p29.97, 2160p30, 2160p50, 2160p59.94, 2160p60

These signals can be output in Video, Extended Video, and Film dynamic range settings.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Kind regards,

So the Broadcast camera should output Video dynamic range in UHD up,to 2160p60

Yeah but to get 2160P above 30Fps you have to leave Prores or DNxHD mode.. Only raw works.. :? Took me some time to find that out either..

Well, someone should tell BM Support this, see their response above?
Thanks Daniel for sorting this one out.
How do you like the Broadcast camera otherwise? Have you tried the Extended Video?

Xtreemtec you are incorrect. You can indeed output Ultra HD 59.94p via SDI from URSA Broadcast and all of the URSA Mini cameras. For 2160p 59.94 output via SDI you can set Ultra HD ProRes in any of its flavours or RAW. DNx is only available in HD resolutions.

Go to the RECORD tab and select Resolution and Codec.
Then go to the second page of RECORD tab and check your Project Frame Rate is set to 59.94fps.

You can do this in Video, Extended Video or Film dynamic range.

The only other thing you need to check is in MONITOR and that your SDI output for your Main SDI on the second page is set to 2160p. If this is set to 1080p or 1080i then you will be down-converting your SDI Output.

It is also a good idea to set your Main SDI to be outputting 'Clean Feed' which will switch off any overlays and status text on that output. Hope this helps guys.
