HDMI inputs/TV Studio HD

PostThu Jun 21, 2018 1:41 pm

Is anyone using the Canon XA-35 HDMI outputs to feed the TV Studio HD switcher in 1080P?
The camera is normally 1080i but the HDMI out says 1080P.

The XA-35 can record 1080p, however the output is normally 1080i. While the HDMI output can be selected to 1080p, this can not be selected if the camera is connected to a Monitor or other device like the ATEM or a video capture card. The HDMI 1080p output is a conversion setting to allow recorded video to be played back via the HDMI to a 1080p Monitor. Otherwise AV output from the HDMI seems to mirror the SDI setting, which does not include 1080p output.

Another case of limiting the camera, which was primarily designed as a stand alone video camera, and not for live production switching/streaming pas the consumer level.

You will need a up/down/Cross Converter to change the 1080i output back to 1080p, like the new BM Micro Converter.

I just had a talk with Canon USA and if the switcher is set to 1080P 59.94 it will likely accept the HDMI input of 1080P 59.94.
I will test it soon.

Thanks Cliff, this is interesting, Canon’s web site description only stated 1080p was available on a TV monitor connection. Let us know how the test goes.
