Hyperdeck Studio Mini issues - "Invalid sample description"

PostMon Jul 02, 2018 5:02 pm

We were so happy to receive the latest Hyperdeck Mini update which allowed us to record in MP4. However, since the update, we have files that won't open on any mac. The files play fine from the flash drives on the mini, but not on a computer. The QuickTime error we are getting is "The movie could not be opened. An invalid sample description was found in the movie."

Problem is consistent with 2 separate Hyperdeck Studio Minis.
Recording format was set to MP4 medium
Recording format was also tested at ProRes LT, files still wont open.
Audio Channels to be recorded were set to 8.
Problem was not there before the update. All formats of ProRes recorded and played fine.

Drives we are using - 128gb, Lexar Platinum II 300x 45MB/s.
Resolution from our video switcher is 1080p/59.94. (Roland V-60HD)

It would be my guess that the decks are not properly writing the ending data tag on video files and that this hyperdeck update was a bit premature from BM. My hope is that there is a resolution that will not require us to pay the big bucks to a third party to do a file recovery.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
