Webpresenter - 1080p?

I know its currently only currently made to work at 720p, is there any likelihood of a firmware update offering 1080p as an option?

Obviously bandwidth is a concern, but lets assume I have a frickin' insane upstream.

Since WebPresenter has the old USB 2.0 interface to your Mac or PC, I'm less enthusiastic about the prospects for 1080P firmware updates coming, especially considering the modest $495 cost of entry -- but actually, 1080P 30 frames-per-secs should be doable-- right Gang?

Since the WP was designed to be recognized by a PC as a Web Cam, 720 is the max resolution it was designed to have. I doubt it can be changed but a FW update.
Cheers

Would be great and would improve the sales greatly of the product.

Would like to see an answer on this.

It’s more likely they will release a usb 3 version.

Well then still on USB 2 it will top out at 1080P30 due too speed..
USB 3 is something BMD wont touch again after all problems they had in the past with the USB 3 products they developed..

For a while all new gear only had Thunderbolt on it.. And since a year you see that BMD is going the USB-C route.. (Also handy because the new Mac and new Windows computers all support USB-C..

So maybe @ IBC or maybe next year we will see a 1080P or even 4K by USB-C..

But for now.. 720P is the standard.. Also FB does not allow higher resolutions then 720P as far as i know.. But for other applications it could be good..

Logitech does have 4K webcams by now.. https://www.logitech.com/nl-nl/product/brio-stream-4k-hd-webcam?crid=34

There are actually several video format options for USB Video Class (UVC) devices like the Web Presenter (devices that conform to this specification typically don't require specialized drivers):
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB_video_device_class

USB Video Class allows for uncompressed video or compressed video such as MPEG-2, MJPEG, or even H.264.

I believe the Web Presenter uses MJPEG compression for its video. Obviously H.264 would be much more efficient, but even with MJPEG, I would think you could squeeze 1080p video into the available 480 Mbps bandwidth of USB 2.0 connections. There are lots of webcams that do 1080p video over USB 2.0.

Really only uncompressed HD video requires a USB 3.0 connection to work.

Now, whether the Web Presenter hardware is capable of doing compression at higher resolutions, and whether or not a firmware update is likely is a different story. But I don't think the speed of the USB connection is the limiting factor.

Have you ever seen a USB 2 device getting speeds of 480 Mbps??
Yes it is spec.. But i have never had a machine that really matched that speed..

Yes H264 might be a solution.. But all depends if the processor is able to do that realtime and with enough quality.
