ATEM Television Studio HD Not Seeing Camera

PostSun Sep 16, 2018 12:53 pm

I have aew ATEM Television Studio HD It has only done two shows so I am new to this switcher I hope I am not missing something here. On yesterdays show the switcher would not see my Sony PMW EX3 camera but when I plugged the camera into a Barco PDS902 that i had as a backup it saw it straight away,
any ideas what went wrong here.

ATEM Settings:
Video Format -1080@25
SDI input 5.
Camera output:
SDI - 1080@25.
HDMI inputs 1->3 were PC sources all at 1080@25 no problem.

Thanks in advance.

Are you Def. setting the cameras output to 25p or are you simply setting the recording res/ frame rate etc. ?

Although offering various outputs for recording many cameras of this era only gave a fixed 50i output.

Set the Atem to 50i and see if it resolves an image or dive into the barco setup and see if that indicates what it's receiving from the camera.

Could try to change the atem format to a few other 1080 formats to see if the camera shows up. Make sure sdi is enabled on the camera sometimes its disabled by default or set to hdmi. Some of the sony cameras will output 1080i60 no matter the recording format selected. Not sure about the ex3.

Thanks Andrew,
I set the system up again in the warehouse and you are correct the Sony was outputting 1080i when the menu was saying 25p. We can live with the 1080i.

Thanks for getting back to me.

Older cameras like the Sony PMW EX3 or AF100 always output an interlaced signal, 1080i59.94 or i50, regardless what the internal recording frame rate is. The csmera settind on,y change what is being recorded, not thenoutput. The only exception is if you select 720p50/60, then you will get 7210p50/60 output as well.

I had a similar problem last night.
Switch is in a rack box and hard to see the back side, I finally figured out I was plugging into the loop out on the back of the switcher, moved the cable to the bottom row and all worked great.
Ok I won't make that mistake again.
