In HyperDeck firmware 5.3 they added support for Rec. 2020 playback on the HyperDeck Studio 12G, but this does not seem to be supported for recording yet:

I assume that when recording it writes all files as Rec. 709 regardless of the input color space, but I've never actually tried feeding it a Rec. 2020 input source. None of the other HyperDeck models (other than the 12G) have any Rec. 2020 support.
The REF input on HyperDecks is only for a reference/genlock signal. It cannot be used for timecode input. The HyperDeck Studio Pro has a dedicated XLR connector for LTC timecode input.
The only way to get external timecode into the other HyperDeck models (those without a dedicated timecode input port) is to embed the timecode with the SDI input signal (as SMPTE RP 188 ancillary timecode).
