Limited audio when used on TVS Pro4k

PostTue Oct 23, 2018 1:36 pm

Hi guys,

I constantly running into one stupid issue:
We have connected two PS4Pros with different games.
Both are connected to the ATEM Television Studio Pro 4k.
The consoles are connected to blackmagic converters and we have tried different ones:
The updowncross HD and the BiDirectional.

The video is great - no problem but the audio lacks of speech. So there are action sounds but no talk at all!
That makes me believe that specific channels are not recognized by the ATEM or the converters.

Our ATEM runs on 1080p50.

I have tried a lot:
switching audio settings on the PS4, on the ATEM but still no talking.
What is the problem?

The most stupid solution:
I connect one really cheap scaler to the hdmi and the hdmi output into on BM HDMI->SDI converter. That seems to do the trick. But that dirty box is VERY unreliable and gives me several random blackscreens.

I thought issues like that would be gone with the build in scaler in the TVS Pro4K but not the audio seems to be the problem :/

Thanks for your help!

Try to find a Decimator MD-HX in your neighbourhood and test it.. 99% sure it will solve your audio problem as it does allow more audio channels to run.. ;)

sounds like your game is 5.1 audio. 5.1 is usually sent in this fashion...

ch1-Left front
ch2-Right front
ch3-center front
ch4-sub woofer
ch5-left rear
ch6-right rear

dialog is usually mixed into the center channel (ch3) and the ATEM can only access ch1 and ch2 (stupid-how bout it BMD?). you could see if there is a setting in the game to output or down mix to stereo, then everything will be on ch1/2. otherwise you'll have to shuffle the channels with a decimator or something as Daniel has suggested.

If you select digital out (optical) as your output, uncheck Dolby/AAC options, and set audio format priority to Linear PCM, you will get 2.0 audio embedded in the HDMI output.
