QLab playout with UltraStudio HD Mini

PostFri Oct 26, 2018 7:03 am

Anyone tried this?

I was trying to output video through QLab and the UltraStudio HD Mini, because it's a more solid interface than the HDMI+minijack-combo from a Macbook Pro.

I've mainly used it for output with Premiere Pro and After Effects before, but thought QLab would handle it nicely. However, what happens is when I start QLab, I can see the output resolution of the UltraStudio being changed from 1080i50 (which is what I want) to NTSC :o

If anyone knows how to fix it, I'd be very grateful!

So I figured this out - QLab doesn't automatically select the current resolution of your output device, it selects the first in the list. So what I thought meant being limited to 720x486, was instead just a matter of finding the (honestly quite well hidden) dropdown in Surfaces -> UltraStudio HD Mini -> Edit -> lower left:

So this means I can now do SDI and HDMI (+ fill/key!) output from QLab on my MacBook Pro with a sliiightly more robust solution than an HDMI-adapter plus converters flapping around in the breeze! :D
