Ursa broadcast .... the beginning of the disappointment?

PostMon Oct 29, 2018 12:42 pm

I have the feeling that the development on Ursa Broadcast has been a little abandoned ...
Certainly you have released the Camera Control Panel, but honestly, it leaves something to be desired: for now we have access to a gain, a diaph and a level of black.
Can not set the white balance in Kelvin, nor the hue. there is a bug on gain that do not match that of cameras ....
Studio Fiber are not even entitled to a menu, the management of the intercom via sdi can not activate or deactivate ....
In short we would like you to have a little consideration for companies that buy for over 70,000 euros of cameras and equipment Blackmagic by not abandoning the development of your products.
the base is there, but we really need to be able to work professionally, otherwise Sony and Panasonic will be right .... and we will have to stop with your products.

Hoping to see updates very soon ...

I think a lot of these issues are known and talked about in the forums and presumed to be fixed in upcoming patch. However, a firmware update is long overdue or any official mention from BM of when we might see anything. Cause surely a menu button on the Fiber CCU should do something :D ?

same other problem

1) Canon hj21, hj22, hj40 - sometimes the iris control does not work (you need to restart the camera)
2) no audio control settings, luts, gamma, TINT from atem camera control rcp or atem software
3) no nd filter value displayed

The Ursa Broadcast is a basic ENG/Studio hybrid camera at an entry price level, and is not going to have all the features and CCU control options a $20-30K Sony or Panasonic ENG camera is going to have. So coming into one with these expectations is going to result in being disappointed.

Issues with Iris control are issues with some lenses, and checking the camera pull down menu from the heads up display sometimes get set to manual, make sure it is in Auto Iris. If set to manual, locks control from the touch screen, auto iris and remote iris control is disabled from my experience with the camera.

Some issues have been ID by BM, and a recent FW update was released during the summer to address smooth remote iris control. Kim ID some lens iris/zoom control sizes being a result of worn parts in the lens servos on some of the problematic lenses.

Every time BM releases a new camera, like the new Pocket 4K, the new release takes all their attention and effort until it is sorted, and working smoothly and production is up and run at full capacity. Then they take time to address remaining issues on previous cameras and/or add new features like the BM Raw. So i think it will be sometime in 2019 Q1 before we see any action here on new FW releases on the older cameras like the Broadcast and UM 4.6.

Denny is right. If you expected a camera / chain that worked out of the box you should have bought the S or P.
BMD is a fairly new player in this market and a Work in progress. I have talked to several developers 2 months ago at a Fair. And a lot of issues are known with them. But They don't decide over there programming time. And at the point that other products that get released that generate big revenue like the Pocket 4K. And the bugs found in that product initial release software are adressed first along with the bugs found in 6.0 Beta firmware.

At the back end people are busy getting things fixed and done right. Just have patients and faith.

For the new FW update for the UB i expect Febr 2019. Along with the announcement of the new products.. ;)
