HDMI to SDI conversion with HDMI loop out

PostThu Mar 07, 2019 5:29 pm

Hello! I was wondering if there is any signal converter by BMD that would allow me to convert HDMI to SDI and had HDMI loop-out at the same time. The reason for this mostly is that I was looking for a solution that could allow me to take an image from a PC or a gaming console and feed it into a streaming PC or ATEM (via SDI of course). Both those application require the user with that PC or console to still be able to see what they're doing, hence the need for HDMI lop out into their screen.

I was wondering if maybe the BiDirectional SDI/HDMI converter could do this (as it has HDMI in and out)?

Or, if BMD doesn't have such a device, is there any other manufacturer to recommend? Most of the stuff I found online does not really inspire confidence and looks pretty plasticky and unreliable. Bonus points if the device can de-embed audio from the HDMI. :-)

Thanks for any tips and ideas!

Well it can be done with the bi-directional. But your SDI will be in the framerate and resolution the PC outputs.. Which is often not what your Atem needs.

So go for the BMD UpDownCross or Decimator MD-HX

Interesting, so would 1920*1080 60 fps be problem for ATEM?
Also, I guess UpDownCross supporting 4K is a dream for the future, right? :-)

Yes, many of us are waiting for a cheaper 4K scaler. Hopefully at NAB...

++ 100.. Running into issues with my Atem Broadcast 4K all the time.. And only 2 Teranex AV's to fix issues to convert from / to.. Where i already need 1 to do 12G > 3G WITH embedded CCU control data. Because that downconvert HD output does not support CCU / tally data..
