Micro Converter and Smarhub issues with 1080 50i

PostFri Mar 08, 2019 9:02 am

Hi,

I have a 20x20 Smarthub and a Tricaster Mini. Unfortunately the Tricaster Mini has HDMI inputs and outputs and the SmartHub is SDI so I have to convert all the inputs and outputs between the two.

SDI 1080i to HDMI into the Tricaster works
HDMI 1080i out of the Tricaster to SDI works
but
HDMI 720P out of the Tricaster works through the Blackmagic Micro converter but does work into the SmartHub where it sees no signal

Also if I take the 1080i out of the Tricaster through the converter and back into the SmartHub as a source ten ouput that to a converter to get HDMI again the converter changes the 1080i to 1080p25.

Basically the SmartHub doesn't like 720P and the micro converters are changing some SDI 1080i outputs to 1080p25.

I have downloaded the latest converter utility and also the SmartHub is only 6 months old.

The Micro converters don't change the signal. They are not capable of doing signal conversions like i to p!

So the source of your error is somewhere else.

You might want to get an monitor that has SDI and HDMI inputs like the VideoAssist or something else.
And start debugging at different places in your signal chain to see were your error is coming from. ;)

It is very odd as the only devices in the loop are a HDMI to SDI converter and the SmartHub.

Also it is working today and nothing has changed with the layout.

I thought the Blackmagic SmartHub could handle 1080i, 720p on different inputs.

Hello,
I am new to this forum.

I am curious when you say that the Micro Converters will not change the signal from i to p.
I am using a Bi-directional HMDI/SDI and a HDMI to SDI. Unfortunately, the issue I am having is that it will not output any signal from any device other than 1080i.

For example; I have a laptop and/or Camera outputting 1080p 59.94hz. I set the mixer to receive that signal, with the HDMI to SDI I get nothing. If i switch to 1080i I get signal. I can plug HDMI into the one HDMI input and it will receive the 1080p signal.

I'm wondering if the Microconverters only do 1080i, as the specs have listed a whole slew of different signals.

Thanks in advance.

The micro converters do 1080P without issues.
BUT!! 1080P 50/59.94 there are 2 Standards 3G Level A & Level B. You have to configure the micro which level you want to output it. And the same applies to the Atem. You have to choose if you want to run Level A or Level B. ;) See Atem settings from the Atem software, go to the tab were you configure the resolution / framerate. And you will see Level A Level B selector on that tab. 8-)

See my post today about :
Re: HDMI-SDI micro converter problem

If the Micro Converter has no EDID protocol, then no surprise that the format is not well aligned along the chain.
I tested a different configuration:
LUMIX FZ300 HDMI output -> Micro Converter - > ATEM TS set on 1080 50i.
Works OK when the LUMIX video recording quality is set to AVCHD 17M 50i.
I guess that here the LUMIX HDMI output is forced to 1080 50 i, so the Micro Converter has the same format on both sides.
Hope it helps ..
