URSA Camera comparison

PostTue Mar 12, 2019 3:01 pm

Hey all,
As we roll closer to NAB, I was looking at BMs cams and saw 2 diff ursas -- The broadcast and the film camera.

It looks like the base cam is identical, but with different mounts. Does anyone know if they are different models altogether?

Yes, yes their are. The Ursa Mini Pro and Ursa Boradcast are sharing the same body/case and operating system, and share some of the same accessories, like the EF, Nikon F and PL lens mounts. However they are two entirely different cameras with different applications/markets, although their is some cross over.

The UM Pro is a S35 4.6k size sensor, with a EF mount as standard, and designed as a Cine Camera. The camera has quite a few Cine features, like window sensor, HD and 2KDCS, and the Pro has BRaw included.

The Ursa Broadcast has a smaller S16/1-inch size sensor, designed primarily as a ENG/Studio Camera and comes with a B4 Mount installed to use 2/3rds ENG style B4 zooms. However, you can swap out the B4 mount for a PL mount, and use cine PL lenses, and you have a S16 Cine Camera, with a 1-stop gain in exposure available. The B4 Mount has a special optical block that corrects B4 lenses (which were originally designed for 3-CCD cameras), and expands the image to fill the larger 1-inch sensor, this takes one stop of exposure, as it is basically a 1.5X tele-Converter. The Broadcast does not yet have BRaw, but does shoot CDNG.
