Micro Converter BiDirectional SDI/HDMI issue

PostFri Mar 22, 2019 7:02 pm

I just bought a few Micro Converter BiDirectional SDI/HDMI converterer boxes for long cable runs in my two projector VJ setup to replace my old HDMI cable setup.

To my disappointment the BlackMagic converters do not work in the native resolution of 1280x800 (60hz) of my beamers. Is this normal?

I manage to get the image output for 1280x576 (50hz or 60hz) but then I'm losing some of the beamer output real estate in the top and bottom. The trusty old HDMI cables work just fine with any resolution / hz I throw at them.

My setup is:
MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014)
2,5 GHz Intel Core i7
NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB
Matrox DualHead2Go Mac Edition
2 x Optoma GT760 Beamers

Yes, that is expected. The Micro Converters only work with standard broadcast resolutions and frame rates. So for HD, that means either 1920 x 1080 or 1280 x 720 resolution (16:9 aspect ratio). You can find a full list of the supported video standards on the product page: https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/produc ... /W-CONU-07

Probably the best bet is if you can run the projectors at 1280 x 720 as that seems to be the native resolution of the projector anyway.

Ouch, wish I'd found the info before purchasing.

Well, I'll check tomorrow how the 1280 x 720 works! The 80 pixel cropping from 800 to 720 sounds much better than the 224 pixel cropping from 800 to 576.

Only 1280x720 or 1920x1080 or some pal resolutions.. Other resolutions are not supported..
Also almost ALL SDI hardware will not support different resolutions. Because it will only convert to legal broadcast resolutions / framrates ;)

Cool, I didn't know about this.

The 1280x720 with only 80 pixels cropped from the full output is much better than the 1280x576 I found to be working earlier.
