Plug in to your ATEM for PTZ control

PostMon Apr 15, 2019 7:05 am

This PTZ2ATEM allows any 3rd party PTZ controller to send PTZ commands via RS485 to control ALL ATEM Production Switcher PTZ functions including Iris and Focus.
The ATEM PTZ functions are available either via the RS422 connector on the ATEM rear, or as embedded data in the camera return feed. This allows all the PTZ commands to coexist alongside the CCU controls for BMD cameras etc over very long distances.

The PTZ available controls are PAN, TILT, ZOOM, FOCUS and IRIS. Only a single PTZ2ATEM and PTZ controller unit is required to control ALL PTZ cameras (limited by the ATEM model). At the camera end you can use a ATEM2PTZ Controller which takes the ATEM camera return and generates Visca as RS422, or use a Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera which has built in Visca to RS422. For the Visca commands you can use a PTZ(IF) Interface (as seen in another video) to control low cost PTZ heads.
You can use any PTZ Controller that supports Pelco protocol on RS485 connectivity (9 pin ‘D’). The PTZ2ATEM has no knobs or buttons but has a status tri-coloured LED to indicate ATEM connectivity and Joystick activity.

To adjust settings such as
- local IP address
- required ATEM IP address
- PTZ protocol
- controller baud rate
- Aux buss control
- LED brightness
... just connect a USB cable to the built in USB connector and run a terminal program (@115200) on either a Mac or PC.
All settings are stored in NV memory so setup only needs to be done once. The USB connector can also be used for power (5v) and firmware updates. There is also an external power connector for 7 to 12 volts.

The PTZ Controller can select any camera available on the ATEM and the subsequent adjustments are then made to that camera. The PTZ2ATEM also has the ability to control the ATEM Aux busses when selecting individual cameras. There is also available the ability to adjust all controls using 2 separate speed ranges.

Coming soon.... ATEM2PTZ for the camera end using the return camera feed; that's CCU+PTZ over many K's of fiber!!!

And then there is the PTZ head controller that reads the PTZ data from the ATEM Camera return feed and converts it to either discrete pan and tilt commands OR RS422 serial commands such as Pelco, Visca etc. It can also provide LANC commands for zoom, iris and focus for compatible cameras.
This is similar to the PTZ(IF) Interface unit seen in a previous video, except this unit derives the PTZ data from the embedded ATEM CCU data and the earlier unit derives the PTZ data from the BMD Micro Studio Cameras PTZ connector (which does the de-embedding).

Any other good remote pan tilt solutions for those Black Magic micro Studio Cameras?
