How Do I CCU Ursa Cameras If I Have A Third Party Switcher?

PostTue Apr 23, 2019 4:50 pm

Hello, I am thinking of getting several BM Ursa Broadcast Cameras to replace older Sony cameras for a studio, and I would like figure out how to CCU them if I don't have ATEM switcher. The studio I work in current runs a Ross switcher. Are there any workarounds or would the signal flow have to be Ursa > ATEM Rack switcher > AUX > Ross Switcher ?

Any advice on how to CCU cameras without an ATEM switcher is appreciated.

Ccu control is send towards the camera over a return sdi cable. This signal can come from a small atem mixer, connected to the BMD shading panel on ethernet. Or use the software panel.

If you still have RCP controls for sony, there might be other 3rd party options.

You can also build your own CCU controller with the BMD SDI Shield. or buy an RCP from Skaarhoj with the SDI option fitted.

But i guess an old Atem TVS would be the cheapest option. ;) Less then $500 2nd hand.

Also, you can use 3rd party hardware controllers, like the Levitizer USB SDI or Skaarhoj SDI Hardware.
The Levitizer control only requires a laptop to run the software and it works around a SDI Arduino Shield.
