Monoprice Redmere HDMI cable & ATEM TVS

PostFri Jun 14, 2013 10:28 pm

Just a heads up to keep anyone else from going through the headache I'm going through, the 30' and 50' Redmere HDMI cables from monoprice will not work with TVS, despite what the tech. support folks at monoprice say. I first attempted their hdmi to cat6 extender with no luck, and while trying to return that was assured the Redmere cables would do the trick. They did not.

That being said, does anyone have any suggestions on running signal from 2 cameras (Panasonic HMC80's) to the TV studio (one about 30' and the other about 50'). I'm hoping there's something less expensive out there than going SDI, but that may be my only choice.

Go SDI, you wont regret it and it will save your cameras and save you money on replacing HDMI cables as they break. It costs more up front but in the long run you will be ahead. If you use a battery convertor on the camera end you can try a cheap ebay SDI to HDMI on the other end if you need to end up HDMI. SDI cables are also more flexible and can be longer than HDMI, your cameramen will thank you.

You can get a 35' and 50' Canare HD-SDI cable for $100.

Of course, you do have to deal with getting a converter too.
