New DeckLink Quad HDMI Recorder PCIe Card Issues

PostFri May 31, 2019 7:28 pm

Hey all,

Wondering if anyone else is having any issues with this card since its brand spanking new from Black Magic Design. The biggest issue I have right now is the card not reading post 2016 MacBook Pros via the official Apple Digital Multiport AV adapter.

I have the 11.2 Desktop Video Software installed on an iMac Pro that connects to an external Thunderbolt 3 PCIe chasis. The Decklink Quad card reads the input source incorrectly (1900x1200) on the software. Consequently, the image source will not show up on Live Streaming software switchers such as OBS and Wirecast.

I have no other issues trying other inputs such as older MacBook Pros, Windows Laptops with HDMI outs, iPhone, iPads, cameras, etc.

Thoughts?

I'm also experiencing similar problem. My Decklink Quad HDMI Recorder has been problematic since the beginning. It won't recognize HDMI input from GoPro both 5 and 7 version. I tested same cameras with 2 other capture cards(Decklink Mini Recorder and Ultrastudio Mini Recorder) and it connected successfully. I doubt if its firmware works properly. Desktop Video 11.2 update hasn't solved the issue. Did you report it to the support?

This is very frustrating.

I bought this cards due to Black Magic being a reputable company but this product certainly does not hold up to its standards.

I have the Magewell Pro capture Quad HDMI cards and they work flawlessly compared to this PCIe card. I've called Blackmagic support with zero solutions or any promises in this issue being fixed.

If there isn't any other solution in sight, I plan on returning this card and getting another Magewell Pro Quad HDMI capture card.

Can you run the same ingest to the Media Express application and see if the signal is detected there?

Hi Tony and thanks for replying.

Are you referring to the Black Magic Desktop Video 11.2 Software?

If so, I have ran that software with the MacBook Pro and the Apple HDMI dongle. It still reads a 1900x1200 input. Plugging in an older Macbook (pre touchbar) displays the correct resolution (1920x1080) and gives a signal with Live Streaming software.

Media Express is the capture and playback software that is included in the Desktop Video software bundle. With the device connected and that application open, select the log and capture tab and with the source ingested, are you seeing an image in the preview window? The Desktop Video (DTV) application is for making adjustments for various devices and not what we want to address at this point. Lastly, be sure to have only Media Express open and no other applications such as your live streaming software or another that would allow for video capture/playback.

Got it.

Just tried with Media Express, no live capture software enabled and the source ingested. There is still no signal.

Went ahead and tried a different source -- media express reads that source and displays it in "Log and Capture" but it still won't show anything with the new MacBook Pro and a HDMI connection via dongle.

Hi, I have many problems with this card. First it's not support any GoPro camera. In my Mini Recorder gopro is working - on quad does not.
When I'm connecting JVC GY-HM250E camcoder via HDMI, on 1080i input is divide on two screen (top and bottom). Card is recognizing signal as 1080 25p. When I switch camera to 1080p picture is fine. Audio is not working in both case :/
I was testing it on Media Express and vMix.

Please do something with this, update plis!

What is the frame rate of the 1080i source? We've had no issues ingesting a 1080i59.94 signal to the card and have it be detected on Media Express.

Hi Tony!
Source frame rate in 1080i should be 50i and my Mini Recorder that's what shows, but Quad is recognize it as 25p. It's look like this:https://drive.google.com/file/d/1K2OJeO7HpQWzGwwps6SCKz1xr8C6ekPB/view?usp=sharing

I was able to test a few different video formats into the card and wasn't able to replicate that here. Are the Quad HDMI and Mini Recorder both in the same computer? If so, does removing the Mini Recorder from the computer and testing the Quad HDMI again show the same thing?

Tony, yes there are in the same computer. I had removed mini recorder but the problem still is.
Are you planning add support for gopro cameras? They're working on everyware except quad card :/

It should not be related to a specific product but more on how the signal is sent from that source. So long as the video output of the camera/source is one that matches the formats supported, we do not see why there would be an issue with the Quad HDMI as opposed to the other capture cards. If you were to change the formats of the camera output, is this consistent across the board?

Output format is compatible with specifications of Quad Card. Mini Recorder has less supported formats but in this card it is working, as same as gopro. I'm sure that this is problem with this card or it's drivers.
I was tasted JVC camcorder (50i output) with Roland V1HD mixer, ATEM,Mini Recorder card and it's working fine, on Quad HDMI not.

If you would like for the card to be tested by us, you can contact your regions support office and they can discuss the procedure in how to get this set up. Links for the offices can be found in my signature.

I'm having a similar problem. I'm connecting 2 different Canon DSLR's which output 1080p on HDMI, but this card sees it only as 720x486i (interlaced). I tried everything I could think of. I'm going to give BlackMagic support another day to respond with a fix or the card goes back to Amazon.

Were you able to fix the issue or did you go with Magewell Pro Capture Quad HDMI card instead?

I am having the EXACT same issues at adrianS.

I'm connecting 2 different Canon DSLR's which output to 1080p 60fps on HDMI (verified through another capture card), but this card sees it only as 720x486i (interlaced).

Has this issue been resolved? I have tried everything I can think of as well.

Mark,
I had Blackmagic support reach out to me yesterday, but I already returned this card and went with YUAN SC560-4N card (4x4K HDMI card). I wanted to make this work with Blackmagic, but given the number of other folks experiencing this very same issue with the card and lack of adequate response from Blackmagic to address this, clearly not a one-off situation, made me decide to go with a different vendor. I hope you got your card on Amazon and can return it OR that Blackmagic will respond to this issue and helps to solve it. Either way, post here what the final outcome was.
Good luck.
