Recording and Streaming

PostThu Jun 20, 2013 8:22 pm

Hi

Just about to dip my toe and finally buy a TVS. Done plenty of research, asked a lot of questions on here!

One of my final questions

I have iMAC and can also use PC, what we want is to

1) Stream the TVS straight out onto the internet using LiveStream
2) Record the program so it can be uploaded to YouTube etc.

What is the best solution you have found - 2 separate computers? 1 computer?

Also, what hardware do we need to procure to connect the TVS to a computer and also what software on a Mac to capture and stream the video and what cables do we need

Many Thanks in advance

Hi.
I always thinks its best to use 2 computers if you have them already. First it take the load down on the cpu, which can be rather high if you encode HD for streaming. Second no window are blocking the other so you can always see what your doing and check that the streaming are working OK.

If you use the PC for streaming you can use Tvs:s built in USB2 H.264 signal for streaming. MX light can use that and it has RTMP preset for livestream. It´s also possible to record the same signal inside MX light. You can then use the Mac for switching.

Mxlight.co.uk for more information.

With this setup you don´t need any extra hardware just a license for MX light and that is 45 pounds.

If you have a little more money buy a decklink card to use for streaming and use the H.264 for a backup recording on you Mac.

You need a usb cable to connect the switcher to the computer for setup and streaming/recording and a Cat5 cable.
You need 1-2 hdmi-monitors for multiview and the program out.
Nothing that can´t be found in any radiostore.

Good luck, Hakan

Thanks for your reply

Really appreciate it

What card do I need on my PC and/or Mac to connect the TVS or what input connection is needed?

Hi.

You don´t need any card on your PC or MAC to run the TVS. For normal operation without streaming you only have a Cat5 ethernet cable between the TVS and the computer.

Like they said, you can take the input from your TVS via USB 2.0. This will provide you with a compressed h.264 feed.

Now, something people havent said though is that when you connect your computer to the TVS you manually change your IP, and it also usually uses the only cat5 input you have to your computer, leaving it with no internet (unless its a server or something like that).

So yes, you would technically need two computers, one to control tvs (you can do it with strata and an ipad), and another to input the feed through USB.

You can from there use xsplit or the Open Broadcaster Software to stream and record at the same time. the good version of xsplit costs like 60 usd a year, OBS is free but has a couple disadvantages. Both can record and stream at the same time.

Your computer might not be able to hand xsplit though, depends on specs.

NO... You do not have to do this at all. Just connect the ATEM to a router along with your control computer and configure everything as needed. Your control computer can of course be connected to the ATEM and the internet simultaneously

Good day or night everyone. My church has been using the BM Atem Studio for almost two years now.
It has worked flawlessly. We have now decided to move into live streaming via our website.
We can not figure out how to utilize the USB port from the ATS to stream into a PC Laptop.
I was begging to think it was impossible until reading this thread. So my question is "How"?

Our setup is as follows

1. We feed out of the ATS into a "Black Magic Intensity Pro Capture Card" into a Mac Pro.
2. We use a separate PC laptop to control the switcher via Ethernet
3. We are trying to use a mother PC laptop to stream H.264 live via our Internet server which is using Adobe Media Encoder.

The media encoder does NOT recognize any BM hardware. We have downloaded drivers and still can't get it to see the Switcher. Can you provide some assistance please?

Greatly Appreciated

It's not compatible with adobe media encoder (via the USB port). There is however a very simply solution. The H.264 output from the USB port is compatible with an inexpensive software product called MXLight. That will work for your needs. http://mxlight.co.uk/

be sure to set your atem ip to an address that is in the range of what your router is allowing you to access ... usually 192.168.x.y where the "x" is the same as your computer and the "y" is different.

also i would recommend, if your using a wifi router that you disable your computer's wifi connection and hard wire to the router this isn't completely necessary it will just ensure you have a connection that is reliable as possible
