ExFAT Compatibility for HyperDeck Shuttle/HyperDeck Studio

PostFri Sep 07, 2012 7:38 am

HyperDeck Software Update 3.5 is a new software update for HyperDeck Studio and HyperDeck Shuttle that adds support for the industry standard ExFAT file system. This allows Windows formatted ExFAT disks to be simply inserted for recording and playback. ExFAT is also supported on Mac OS X and disks can be natively mounted on both Windows and Mac OS X without any third party software required. The update will be available for free in September.

This kind of update also required for cinema camera SSD, so it may be formatted to ExFAT in WINDOWS system and also supported in OS X.

Hello,
First of all, excuse my english as it isn't my native language...
I'm trying this new exfat feature, but it doesn't seem to work.

I have
* formated my SSD disks in ExFAT through windows XP

*Downloaded the update Blackmagic HyperDeck 3.5 for Windows here: http://www.blackmagicdesign.com/fr/supp ... rue&os=win

*installed it

*when I plugged in the hyperdeck, the upload has transfered itself to the device

Yet, still the deck states "no disk"..

Mybe have I done something wrong?
If so, could somebody please tell me what?

Do you have a software that allows you to format to ExFAT in Windows XP? Because it's not natively supported? Have you tried on a windows 7 machine?

Hello, thanks for your response.
I have downloaded the patch from microsoft.

It is the hyperdeck that doesn't recognise the Exfat disks.

I think the problem is not microsoft, but seems to be the update of the hyperdeck.

Has someone managed to do it with an hyperdeck studio?

I've done this in house on all of my Hyperdeck's and disks. Not with XP, but on 7. So i'm not sure if there is any inherent differences between the formats on XP vs 7. It might be worth checking to see if you can format the disk on a native 7 OS and give that a try.

For instructions on how to format exFAT drives in Windows see this thread viewtopic.php?f=18&t=1492&p=7958&hilit=exfat+format#p7900

I had to use the manual format method described. I don't have an option to format exFat using the Dist Management tool. Good thing however is the manual method works for me. I use the Quick format option as well (no need to do a full format... that just takes forever).

format z: /fs:exfat /Q

where "z:" is the drive letter that you have assigned the SSD partition in the Windows disk utility.
