Changing thumbnail frame in timeline

PostSat May 10, 2014 4:15 pm

Is it possible to change the thumbnail picture of the timeline thumbs to the slate frame for instance?
That'd be really nice to stay really organised onset with bigger projects..

Could't find anything in the manual..

This would be great not only for slating but also for easier shot recognition when the first frame of the shot is black or a flash frame etc etc.

There is a setting in Project Settings for this.

Hey Rohit, are you talking about the update thumbnails setting? If so how do you designate which frame of a specific clip is currently representing the thumbnail of that clip in the timeline?

If you feel that a particular clip’s thumbnail isn’t representative of its content, you can change it.
To change the current thumbnail:
> Move the pointer over a thumbnail, drag to the left or right to scrub through the clip, and stop when you find a frame you want to use as the new thumbnail.

Page 380 of the Colorist's Manual.

It is a searchable PDF, BTW.

Good luck.

I'm having some trouble with this as well that maybe someone could shed light on:

When I mouse over the tumbnail and let it scroll around, (as per the manual) that works in the media and edit pages, but in the color page the thumbnail is always on the first frame. Am I missing something?

Thanks all!

Despite popcornflix's incredibly arrogant answer (heads up popcornflix: the Page # of the Resolve manual changes with every version of Resolve, so your "answer" becomes dated pretty quickly).

Also, this does answer my main question (and hopefully the question of others):

How do you change the Poster Frame in the COLOR TAB of Resolve?

Yes I've checked the manual (at least searched for "poster frame" throughout). I found the entry about changing the poster frame in the Media tab, but I can't figure out how to do it in the Color Tab, which would be incredible helpful. Thanks to anyone who can help with this!

You don't. You set the poster frame in the media pool.
Maybe AI can help you. Or make you obsolete.

thumbnails on the color page:
if the clip starts with a fade the thumbnail shows the first frame, if the clips starts half way through a fade it shows the half fade. Confusing and unhelpful.
Is there a project setting for grabbing thumbnails 1 or 2 sec in, or at end of transition?
Otherwise - always make fades ending with clip.
