OFX plugin installation

PostThu Jun 26, 2014 6:06 am

I own FilmConvert and thought I would play around with their OFX plugin in Resolve. However, when I install the FilmConvert OFX plugin, it doesn't show up in the effect library in Resolve. I know this is kind of a FilmConvert question, but I was just wondering where OFX plugins are supposed to be installed for Resolve to "find' them. Can't find that info anywhere. Thanks!

On my PC, (which is running FilmConvert Pro OFX and Resolve 11 without issue) OFX plugins can be found here:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\OFX\Plugins\FilmConvertPro.ofx.bundle

On a Mac? I can't find such a folder. Could you be more specific?

Hold down the option key and pull down the GO menu in the Finder. You'll see the Library Folder as a choice. Select it. Finder will open the Library, and you can continue from there.

Thank you, I understand how to access my User Library. That is not the problem. The problem is that there is no such thing as an OFX folder in my library...so I can't really "continue" from there unless I literally create one which seems like something that Resolve should have done. What am I missing.

When you install an OpenFx compliant plugin the standard dictates where the items are placed. Resolve looks in the places defined by the standard. If you have installed an OFX plugin and you can't see it in the Resolve interface, please check with your plugin vendor.

After having installed Beautybox and Filmconvert OFX plugins, everytime I open Resolve 11, I find this message coming in: "OFX is not enabled, please enable it from Color Page".
There is no way to enable the OFX from color page as the OFX button remains unabled (grey).
How do I fix this?

Yes I could solve it, thanks to Rohit Gupta of the Blackmagic Support team.

This is what he told me to do:

"
In the terminal, type this command:

rm "/Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve/.ofxinit"

Restart Resolve, and see if it works. If it crashes, and after you start Resolve you continue to have the same issue, one of the plugins in the /Library/OFX/Plugins folder is not working correctly. You will have to remove them one by one, and identify which plugin is problematic.

Let me know how you go!

Regards,
Rohit"

I found out that Beautybox was the culprit. After removing beautybox and doing exactly what Rohit told me to do solved my problem. Filmconvert and Saphire work fine.

Never mind, I figured out what I was doing wrong! Operator error. I had downloaded the wrong plug-in from Digital Anarchy.

Just for anyone reading this on Windows it's in

C:\ProgramData\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Support

ProgramData is a hidden folder, you can get to it by manually copying and pasting, or typing %programdata% into the address bar of an explorer window. Useful to know, because that location is also where the LUTs are kept

The installation of OFX plugins seems to slow down the render speed drastically.

I can only recommend to use the fusion possibilities as much as possible.

In my case it does the same thing 5-6 times faster, same quality.

I haven't found that to be the case if I'm not using the OFX plug-in. I think I have almost everything: Sapphire, BorisFX, HitFilm, Red Giant, Neat Video, DFT, Film Convert, and Beauty Box. The DFT plugs are a little unstable, but everything else has been OK. I think Mocha is buggy at the moment, so we're using that as a standalone only. (I found the New Blue FX were very unstable, so I stopped using those completely.)

If we're using the plug-in, I think it's fine as long as you cache the effect. No question, the ResolveFX plug-ins are more efficient and more stable, which figures since they're made specifically for Resolve.

How about for Linux? Does anyone know where the plugins should go?

I've tried /usr/OFX/Plugins as well as ~/.local/share/DaVinciResolve/Plugins but neither seem to work. Will Fusion/Resolve automatically detect the OFX plugins or do I need to load them manually?

Thanks!

UPDATE: ofx.bundle folders go in /usr/OFX/Plugins

There are two different Library folders:
/Library (The one you are trying to find)
~/Library (The one you are looking at)
