Cintel film scanner

PostFri Dec 18, 2015 7:58 pm

Does anyone here have any real world experience with this scanner? Does it ship with both 16mm and 35mm gates?

Any thoughts and ideas you, a user with experience have, would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks,

L

I would be interested too!

I was told that the 16mm gate is optional.

@BMD: Will "Rivival Dirt and Dust" be also available for .cri files?

Thanks,
Andreas

Hello. As Andreas said, the 16mm gate is optional. Currently, there is no Revival Dirt and Dust capability with the scanner.

Anyone with hands-on experience? I've read about issues with the stabilisation and fixed pattern noise due to the 4k sensor (same as in the BMPC 4K). I don't dare to ask about the 4.6K sensor...

Thanks,
Andreas

Gary, is it unthinkable to have 8mm/super 8 gate?

There is no practical use of it.
Since there is no possibility of adjusting optical magnification, resolution vs film size is fixed at approx 154.3 pixels/mm (S35mm 3840x2880 px on film size 24.98x18.66mm, etc..) so mathematically on S8 mm gate it should be something like 894x618 px which is far below HD.
So no practical use of it, even 16mm is on threshold of practical usability, just little over HD (1582x1154 px)

Otherwise I have it about a year with 35 & 16mm gates and it works fine. Best value for money I know for now.
Pretty fine film handling, even gentle for archival footage, nice speed (realtime) for everyday use etc., but BMD should work on camera and debayering controls, (there is no any). It is not comparable to Arriscan, it i s different worlds.
If U need 8, S8, go to MWA or Muller Filmfabriek (just ordered one)

I've had a lot of Standard-8 and Super-8mm material frame-scanned on a MWA digital scanner in the couple of years and it's exceptionally good. And it handles Mag and Opt audio!
Blackmagic Teranex 2D, Ultrastudio Express, Intensity Shuttle (Thunderbolt), Two H.264 Pro Recorders (Mac OSX) & lots of old VTRs used for digital archiving of legacy video formats for major libraries, broadcasters, universities and public archives.

Here goes: https://www.mwa-nova.com

They have some interesting new products coming on stream soon. I was looking at their gear at the IBC convention in Amsterdam last Saturday (Sept 16).
