R11 & R12 in shared database environment. Can they co-exist?

PostFri Feb 12, 2016 11:00 am

Hey lads

Against better judgement, but due to lack of time, I ask before really reading up on it myself. Can r11 and r12 co-exist in a shared db environment? I know I have to upgrade the installation on the db server but even when doing so, does anything prohibit me from having our old r11 database running in co-existence with a new r12 database? I mean, in theory I just need to run two different databases and connect r12 to one and r11 to the other.

Reading about the risks of subtle changes that could occur in r11 projects opened in r12 is why I ask this. We cannot upgrade mid-project but at the same time we're starting new projects...

I assume others have been in this situation. Best way to deal with it?

Cheers and thanks. :ugeek:

I would recommend backing up your current database before you do anything. Then I would make a new database for 12 if you want to keep your old 11 database for older projects that you do not want to upgrade mid project. You can probably export a .drp from the 11 database and import it into the 12 database for projects that do exist in the 11 database that you want to bring to the 12.

no,they cannot coexist, as soon as you install/launch the 12, the database will be upgraded and 11 will not see it anymore
